Miriam Meckel (born July 18, 1967) is a German journalist and researcher for Corporate Communication, editor and publisher of the German journal Wirtschaftswoche, and head of the University of St. Gallen's Institute for Media and Communication Management. Miriam Meckel was named editor-in-chief of Germany's top industry weekly Wirtschaftswoche in November 2014, becoming the first female to hold that position. Miriam Meckel served as the State Secretary in North Rhine-Westphalia and government spokeswoman, before becoming the State Secretary for Europe, International Affairs, and Media from 2001-2005. * She served as a professor of Communication Sciences at the University of Münster, Germany, from 1999 to 2001. * Her books include essays on media economics, collaboration, and cyberpolitics, and, in 2010, she wrote about her experience with burn-out syndrome. * Her book was the basis for an award-winning television film in 2016. She was instrumental in establishing the Development Gateway Award as a member of the International Jury of the World Bank, contributing to its establishment (Petersberg Prize). Meckel received the Cicero Award in November 2001 for best speech in the academic category.
