Career
Kunis' parents were enrolled in acting classes after school at the Beverly Hills Studios, where she met Susan Curtis, who would become her manager. On her first audition, she was offered the opportunity to work in a Barbie commercial. She did a commercial for the Lisa Frank product line a few weeks after. Her first television appearances on Days of Our Lives began in 1994 and then she appeared on Days of Our Lives and then on Baywatch for the first time. Walker, Texas Ranger, and Martin's Neighborhood appeared on television shows 7th Heaven and Blackbird, As the young Gia Carangi, as well as supporting roles in the films Santa with Muscles, Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves, and the Angelina Jolie film Gia.
Kunis unsuccessfully auditioned for the role of a Russian Jewish girl who immigrates to America in the film Make a Wish, Molly at the age of 10. Rather, she was cast in a secondary role of a Mexican girl. Kunis appeared in the Fox sitcom That '70s Show in 1998. All who auditioned were required to be at least 18 years old; Kunis, a 14-year-old, told the casting directors that she would be 18 but not tell when. Despite knowing it later, the designers retained Kunis as the right match for the role, even though they later discovered it out. The '70s Show ran for eight seasons.' She received two consecutive Young Artist Awards in 1999 and 2000 for her appearances in a Comedy TV Series.
Kunis replaced Lacey Chabert in the role of Meg Griffin on Fox's animated sitcom Family Guy, created by Seth MacFarlane. Kunis gained the role after auditions and a small rewrite of the story, in part due to her appearance on That '70s Show. Kunis was called back by MacFarlane, who told her to talk slower as she auditioned for the role. He then told her to return to her old age and enunciate more. MacFarlane recruited her after she said she had it under surveillance. "Mila Kunis brought it in a variety of ways, but it was much more accurate for the story," MacFarlane said. I think Lacey did a fantastic job, but Mila was an interesting thing about Mila, which was something that was also normal about Mila. She was 15 when she started, so you were listening to a 15-year-old. Adult characters will appear in animations oftentimes, and they will always be like Saturday morning voices. They tend to be pushed as a result. She had a natural talent to Meg that made what we did with her character actually work." In 2007, Kunis was nominated for an Annie Award in the category of Voice Acting in an Animated Television Production. She appeared in Family Guy Video Game, a family-friendly video game, that was also released in 2006. Kunis described her character as "the scapegoat."
She appeared in Get Over It with Kirsten Dunst in 2001. She topped it off in 2002 by appearing in American Psycho 2 as a sequel to the 2000 film American Psycho. Critics dismissed American Psycho 2's film, and Kunis herself expressed indignation over the film's appearance. Kunis appeared in the film version of Tony n' Tina's Wedding in 2004. Despite the fact that the film was shot in 2004, it did not have a theatrical release until 2007. The majority of analysts did not like the film, which must have Rotten Tomatoes' permission for 25%. "Chrisis would be much better off pretending the movie never happened in the first place," a DVD reviewer said.
Kunis co-starred with Jon Heder in Moving McAllister in 2005, but it was not announced theatrically until 2007. The film received mostly critical feedback and had only been running in theaters for a brief two weeks. She appeared in After Sex alongside Zoe Saldana, who had also appeared in Get Over It. The role, which she gained after unsuccessfully auditioning for Knocked Up, called for improvisation on her part. The film received accolades and became a commercial success, grossing $105 million worldwide. Kunis' appearance was well-received; Joe Morgenstern of The Wall Street Journal praised her "fresh appearance and focussed energy," while James Berardinelli wrote that she is "adept with her appearance and acknowledges the concept of comic timing," additionally. She had been nominated for a Teen Choice Award. Kunis credited Apatow with assisting her in expanding her career from The '70s Show.'
Kunis played Mona Sax, an assassination attempt, alongside Mark Wahlberg in the action film Max Payne, based on the video game of the same name. Kunis completed her training in weapons, boxing, and martial arts for her job. Max Payne was very profitable at the box office, grossing $85 million globally, but critics were dismissive of Kunis, with several commentators referring to Kunis miscast. Travis Estvold of Boise Weekly wrote that she had been "horribly miscast as some sort of undersized, warble-voiced criminal boss." "Mila just bowled us over," Kunis said, was not a natural choice, but she just wears Mona so well. We needed someone who would not be just a nemess or a jumbled frog; we needed someone who could be both a sarcon and a diplomat; we needed someone who would be able to be both a victim or a foil to Max. Mila just knocked it out of the park," I think. For her part in the film, she was nominated for another Teen Choice Award.
She appeared in the comedy film Extract in 2009 starring Ben Affleck and Jason Bateman. The film attracted mostly positive reviews, and it grossed $10.8 million at the box office. Kunis "brings her name to within screaming distance of credibility," Roger Ebert said, although skeptical of the film itself. Director Mike Judge said one of the things that was surprising to learn about Kunis was his ability to make a reference to the cult animation film Rejected. "You could imagine that Mila would cross paths with her in the real world." Judge wanted to place Kunis in the role of Cindy in Extract: "I just thought, this girl is amazing." She wanted to do it, which was amazing." "I'm a huge fan of Mike Judge's From Office Space," Kunis said, "I'm a big fan of your guys from Office Space." I told them that I would do whatever was required to be in this business, like craft service or, more specifically acting.
In the 2010 film The Book of Eli, she appeared alongside Denzel Washington. Despite mixed critiques, the film did a good job at the box office, grossing over $157 million worldwide. Kunis' performance was lauded by film critic Richard Roeper, who called it a "particularly strong piece of work." Several other writers were equally positive, including Pete Hammond of Boxoffice magazine, who wrote that "the demands of the role are still within her reach," and Colin Covert of the Star Tribune said that she "generated a spark and brought a sense of joy to her character," developing an independent female character that is not always in need of rescuing." Claudia Puig of USA Today, among other commentators, she was miscast, noting that "she seemed as if she stepped in from a Ray-Ban commercial." Kunis earned her second Teen Choice Award nomination for her appearance. Kunis appeared in a minor role in the 2010 comedy film Date Night, starring Tina Fey and Steve Carell. She has received several accolades for her work. Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune said her appearance with James Franco helped save the film and gave it "a shot in the arm."
Kunis was nominated for multiple accolades, including her first Golden Globe, for the 2010 film Black Swan. Natalie Portman played a rival ballet dancer to the main character. Kunis was based on her role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and on her co-star and close friend Natalie Portman's recommendation. She underwent a training program that included cardiovascular exercise, a 1,200-calorie a day diet (she regained 20 pounds after filming ended), and ballet lessons for four hours a week. During this demanding work, she sustained ankle ligament damage and a dislocated shoulder.
Black Swan was widely praised by critics and was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The film earned over $106.9 million in the United States and Canada, while overseas, it earned over $329 million. Kunis' results were favorable, with Kirk Honeycutt of The Hollywood Reporter saying, "Kunis makes a good substitute to Portman, both lithe and dark, but also a smirk of self-confidence in place of Portman's wide-eyed trepidation." "I'm the cool, throaty Kunis who is the surprise package here, watching and describing her co-star in a way that we're as uncertain as Nina's ingenuousness." Kunis' appearance at the Venice International Film Festival earned her the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor or Actress, as well as her Golden Globe Award and Screen Actor Guild Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress. She was also honoured with the Best Supporting Actress award at the 37th annual Saturn Awards for her appearances.

Kunis co-starred in Ted, her most commercially successful film to date, with Mark Wahlberg co-starring Kunis. Seth MacFarlane, a Family Guy producer, wrote the film. Kunis played the mother of Wahlberg's character. Kunis was too young for the role when MacFarlane first suggested the project. However, the film remained in production for several years, and when it was finally ready to begin filming, he wound up casting her. Ted has received generally positive feedback from observers, and it has been a commercial hit, grossing $549 million around the world. Kunis "brings some lovely subtle grace notes to a role that could have simply been 'the pushy girlfriend,' according to Drew McWeeny of HitFix.'
In the Walt Disney Pictures' prequel, Oz the Great and Powerful, Kunis played Theodora, the youngest of three witches, opposite James Franco. In the 1939 film, Margaret Hamilton, the original Wicked Witch of the West, dedicated her role in the film. Critics gave the film and Kunis' appearance mixed feedback. Kunis "walks away with the accolades as the wavering witch Theodora's heartbreak brings another, less exciting depth to this 3D spectacle," Empire Magazine's Kim Newman wrote. Kunis' appearance, on the other hand, seemed to be in a state of limbo. The Great and Powerful was a commercial hit, grossing over $493 million around the world.
