Mike Reno Career

Life and career

Reno formed Morning Glory, a youth cover band in which he performed the drums and later discovered the cover band Synergy. Reno formed Spunk, a tribute band formed by guitarist Jack Stoltz, later. Reno briefly joined Penticton Secondary School on an album called Under the Lights, which was released in 1978. It was something of a departure from the previous Moxy albums, partly because of changes in band members, as well as Reno's unique singing style, and it didn't sell as well as the band's earlier albums. Reno was first introduced to Paul Dean in 1979 at The Refinery, and the two quickly joined for a jam session, which culminated in the birth of Loverboy shortly thereafter. Loverboy's first album came out in 1980, and the band went on to tour extensively, as well as releasing three more multi-platinum albums from 1981 to 1985. Wildside (1987), Loverboy's last complete album of original material in the 1980s, was released, but the band included three new original songs on the compilation album Big Ones (1989).

Reno has also worked on various film soundtracks. He appeared on "Almost Paradise" in 1984 with Ann Wilson of Heart. The band "Heaven in Your Eyes" for the film Top Gun (1986), with Loverboy. Reno performed "Chasing the Angels" on the soundtrack to Iron Eagle II (1988), as well as the song "Whenever There's a Night" for the film Dream a Little Dream (1989). Reno has also recorded a cover of "Never Been to Spain," a song that was originally written by Hoyt Axton and later released by the band Three Dog Night for their album Harmony (1971). The Three Dog Night version debuted at No. 1 on the charts. Reno co-wrote and performed the song "All I Ever Needed" from David Foster's River of Love in 1990. Artist Tim Feehan released Tracks I Forgot About, a solo album that features Reno on vocals, "Call of the Wild" in a 2003 release.

Reno attributed Loverboy's demise in the 1990s to the rise of grunge bands such as Pearl Jam and Nirvana.

Reno's first solo album, Renovation, was released in 2002. The album is made up of ten tracks closely resembling his appearance with Loverboy, although some of the tracks include a bonus track titled "Guilty as Charged." According to reports, the album was recorded in 1992 and was supposed to be released by Sony, but they decided to indefinitely shelve the project due to industry shifts... Reno's previously quoted VH1 interview. Reno eventually began to post the unmastered recordings from his own archive tapes on his now defunct website, but went on to post the album in a multitude of outlets. The most common complaint amongst critics and followers is a lack of mastering, overall production, and polishing commonly found on finished albums, but hard core followers and critics alike seem to believe the album is more than worthy of attention.

At the 2007 Grey Cup party in Toronto, Loverboy was headlining. Reno was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame as a Loverboy during the 2009 Juno Awards. Loverboy appeared at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver on Sunday, February 21, 2010. This night, also known as "Nunavut night," was co-headlined with Trooper. The live medal awards were given in short track speed skating (ladies' 1,500 m and men's 1,000 m), men's 1,500 meters, and a men's freestyle skiing ski cross.

Unfinished Business, the band's most recent collection of all-new songs, was released on July 15, 2014 by Loverboy Music. Reno continues to tour and perform live with Loverboy as of 2015.
