Mike Posner Career

Career

Posner started out as a record producer, playing on certain tracks with his hometown buddy Big Sean. A Matter of Time, Posner's second mixtape (the first mixtape being Reflections of a Lost Teenager) gained media attention in 2009. The Brain Trust, Don Cannon and DJ Benzi, were on the mixtape at Duke University in March 2009 under the banner "Mike Posner & the Brain Trust," referring to Posner's supporters. The product was unusual in that it was free on iTunes U, a channel intended for educational audio books. Despite the fact that Posner was not the only one to take advantage of this loophole, his debut was the most well-planned and high-profile, and attracted the most immediate response, landing at number one on the iTunes US chart and immediately securing the number one position. After his junior year at Duke University, Posner signed a record deal with J Records (RCA/Sony). He returned to Duke after signing, and toured on weekends as part of his debut album.

One Foot Out the Door, Posner's third mixtape, was released in October 2009. The mixtape was accompanied by a web series of the same name that aired bi-weekly from September to December. In August 2010, Posner's debut album, 31 Minutes to Takeoff, was released. On the US Billboard Hot 100, the first single, "Cooler Than Me," has debuted at number 6 on the first single. He appeared at Bonnaroo's music festival and the 2010 Warped Tour. "Please Don't Go" and "Bow Chicka Wow Wow" were two of the top 20 and 30 on the Hot 100 respectively, with "Please Don't Go" and "Bow Chicka Wow Wow" appearing in the second and third singles. Lil Wayne, a rapper, had the latter performer with an added verse. Posner received an ASCAP Award from the publishing company in 2011 for his book "Cooler Than Me." RCA Music Group, Arista Records, and Jive Records announced on October 7, 2011, together with Arista Records and Jive Records, that J Records would disbanding J Records. Posner (and all other artists who have signed to these three labels) and others will have his future artwork on the RCA Records label in the aftermath.

Since the debut of his debut album, he began collaborating on his second studio album under the name Sky High and sold the single "Looks Like Sex" to digital outlets on December 2, 2011. Posner's third mixtape, The Layover, served as a preview to the album's unveiling. However, with the success of his first album, Posner began to feel uncomfortable with being in the spotlight and suffered with depression. He went from writing and recording songs for other artists. Posner revealed later this week that his upcoming album, Pages, would be released in early June or late Summer 2013. On June 11, 2013, his album "The Way It Used To Be" premiered on digital outlets. In September 2013, it was revealed that he had shot a music video for his latest single "Top of the World," which will be released on his forthcoming Page 1 album in October. The song was originally designed for a Reebok campaign and was released as a free download under the name "Tapada World" as a special remix. Big Sean appeared in the song and then the music video on December 19, 2013.

Posner unplugged tour debuted on March 4, 2014. The tour included seven dates in major US markets, as well as giving fans a chance to learn new information from him through the stories and Q&A sessions interspersed with the tunes. Except for a live performance on "a song or two"—much like how much of his music begins, Posner's unplugged sets featured little more than Posner on mostly acoustic instruments, save for the possibility of a live performance on "a song or two." Posner began the tour on March 31 at the World Cafe in Philadelphia, before concluding at The Mint in Los Angeles on April 10. A hometown show in Posner's hometown Detroit, his first such exhibition in about two years, according to him. Mike revealed that he had signed with Island Records and that Pages would be replaced with another project in an interview with Billboard. He also stated that he wants to get his recordings from Sky High and Pages so the world can see his performances.

Posner's Vevo account released "I Took a Pill in Ibiza" on April 15, 2015. Posner's message was included in an exclusive EP titled The Truth that Posner made available to followers via his email sign up list. On June 22, he announced that the EP would be available in online stores. In addition, Posner said that his second studio album would be out after the EP.

"I Took a Pill in Ibiza" was later remixed by Norwegian production duo SeeB, whose Norwegian production team has also increased over one billion streams on Spotify and a charting position of five on the Global Top 50 Chart and five on the USA Top 50 Chart. The SeeB remix dominated the charts in Netherlands, Ireland, Norway, Norway, the United Kingdom, and American Billboard's Dance/Mix Show Airplay, and peaked inside the top ten of the charts in Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States, despite being ranked in the top ten of the charts in Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States.

On December 18, 2015, The Truth EP was released. SeeB's remix of "I Took a Pill in Ibiza," as well as JordanXL's remix of the single "Be As You Are." Mike Posner, a musician from At Night, Alone, was released on May 6, 2016, and it featured both originals and remixes of "I Took a Pill in Ibiza" and "Be As You Are." Posner's on the album is on the rise, but At Night, Alone is both a welcome return and a significant step forward." Posner revealed on February 17, 2017 that the album's third single would be a remix of American electronic duo Grey's "In the Arms of a Stranger."

Posner also tried new ground in 2017. On March 17, he not only published a book of poetry, Teardrops and Balloons, but also introduced Mansionz, an American singer blackbear. The album, which was a collaboration with rapper Spark Master Tape titled "Stfu," was a soulful hip hop project with spoken word influence. Mansionz is currently signed to Island Records, with three singles, "Stfu" (featuring Spark Master Tape), "Rich White Girls," and "Dennis Rodman" (featuring Dennis Rodman). Soren Bryce, G-Eazy, Cyhi, Snooze God, Spark Master Tape, and Dennis Rodman were among the pair's self-titled debut full-length album on March 24, 2017.

Mike Posner appeared on Nick Jonas' 2017 single "Remember I Told You," the second collaboration between Posner and Jonas. Anne-Marie, an English singer, appeared on the album as well. Posner unveiled a poetry album named I was born in detroit on January 22, 2018, a very, very, very, very cold day that was announced on January 26, 2018. Posner's third studio album, A Real Good Kid, debuted "Song About You" in September 2018. On January 18, 2019. The album was released on January 18, 2019.

On October 9, 2019, he launched Keep Going, his fourth mixtape to honor his journey around the country. Posner's fourth studio album, Operation: Wake Up, was released on December 18, 2020.
