Mike Iupati Life

Michael Iupati (EE-PAH-tee), an American football guard for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL), was born May 12, 1987.

Samoa, Iupati, a native of southern California, attended college football at Idaho, and was named All-American honors.

In the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft, Iupati was selected by the San Francisco 49ers and four with the Arizona Cardinals; he spent five seasons with the 49ers and four with the Arizona Cardinals.

Early years

After finishing junior high school, Iupati's family moved to Garden Grove, California, where he was born and raised in Valianti, American Samoa. He is the uncle of Aposetolo, a former mechanic at Los Angeles International Airport, and Belinda Iupati.

He attended Western High School in Anaheim, where he began playing football under the guidance of Odell Harrington, the school's half-Samoan football coach. Senior Fili Moala suffered his foot two games into the season, making his first attempts to play in his sophomore year. Iupati received all-state and all-conference awards as a team captain on both sides of the game, as well as a team captain. He had 80 tackles and 12 sacks as a youth, and was ranked first in the All-CIF pick as a rookie. Iupati has also competed in wrestling and track & field (52 ft 2 in the shot put) (90 m)).

Iupati was not one of the country's top offensive lineman prospects, with only a two-star recruiter from both Rivals.com and Scout.com. Only a few schools gave him scholarships, among which were Arizona and Texas–El Paso. Despite this, those schools were rewarded because of Iupati's poor academic record, owing to a language barrier (English is his second language). Due to a lack of a high enough SAT rating or high enough ratings, Iupati was planning to enroll junior college before Johnny Nansen was seen in 2005 at a junior college's barbecue for prospective students. Nansen, then an assistant at Idaho under head coach Nick Holt, offered him a job with the Vandals the next day, but the Palouse University, which was then a better option than junior college, was a better choice than junior college.

Personal life

Iupati met Ashley Galeai of Nampa, Idaho, where her cousin played for the Warriors following a home game against Hawaii on October 17, 2009. Ashley and Mike Iupati married in February 2012 and have a son, KoaAli'i (born in August 2012). The two people live near Star, Idaho.

Fionna, Michael's sister and a Site Registrar for Central Texas College, lives in Fort Polk, Louisiana, with her husband and children. Both his two brothers, Aposetolo Jr., and Andrew, live in Corona, California, and are currently engaged in personnel protection. After making it to the NFL, Iupati bought his parents a house in Corona, Corona.

Andrew, Iupati's younger brother, played defensive tackle for the Oregon Ducks from 2007 to 2009 before moving to Humboldt State, where he graduated in 2012. Andrew Iupati was undrafted in 2012, but he attended San Francisco's three-day rookie minicamp in May 2012.

Mike Iupati Career

College career

Iupati played for the Vandals from 2006 to 2009. He was ineligible to play as a true freshman in 2005 and therefore ineligible to receive a scholarship or financial support because of academic difficulties, but was unable to receive a scholarship or financial assistance. For his first year, his family took out a loan to pay non-resident tuition and bed and board. He joined the Vandals football team in 2006 and saw action as a redshirt freshman under head coach Dennis Erickson's guidance. He started all 12 games at left guard and became an impact player on the line for the struggling Vandals as a sophomore under first-year head coach Robb Akey.

Iupati underwent shoulder surgery offseason and did not return to the team until the third game of the 2008 season. In 8 of the ten games in which he participated, he got off to begin. In his junior year, he earned second-team All-WAC recognition.

Iupati was selected to the preseason watch list for the Outland Trophy and the Lombardi Award as a senior in 2009. He was ranked at No. 2 on the charts. 9 on Rivals.com's preseason interior lineman power ranking. Iupati played 807 snaps with 49 knockdowns and 21 pancake blocks in 2009, beginning all twelve games on left guard. He did not order a quarterback to be fired, but only five defensive players he has banned have been pressed on quarterbacks Nathan Enderle or Brian Reader. The Vandals defeated the Bowling Green Falcons 42–42 in the Humanitarian Bowl for their first winning season since 1999 and their first bowl game win since 1998.

Iupati was one of three finalists for the Outland Trophy on November 24, alongside Russell Okung and winner Ndamukong Suh. Iupati was a consensus All-American and was also named first-team All-WAC. He was the first Idaho Vandal to be honoured by All-American since John Yarno in 1976, and the first All-American from the WAC since Ryan Clady in 2007.

Professional career

Iupati was ranked as one of the top offensive guard prospects in the 2010 NFL Draft. He was projected as a late first or early second round pick, according to several scouts. "Nearly every scout who has analyzed Iupati on film says he has the footwork and athleticism to be a left tackle," Russ Lande of Sporting News said. According to Sports Illustrated's Tony Pauline, Iupati was "the highest-rated guard since Steve Hutchinson," whom the Seattle Seahawks picked with the 17th pick in the 2001 NFL Draft.

Iupati migrated to Irvine and spent time with former NFL lineman Jackie Slater at least four days a week, both guard and tackle, preparing for the NFL Combine. Iupati was ranked as the 15th best player overall on several draft boards as well as the only guard selected by NFLDraftScout.com in the first two rounds. Despite the fact that Iupati scored only 13 on the Wonderlic intelligence exam, the San Francisco 49ers were still not able to reject Iupati in the 1st round, the 17th pick overall. It was the first time the 49ers used a first-round pick on an interior offensive lineman after selecting Forrest Blue 15th overall in 1968. In the 1967 NFL Draft, Iupati was the highest drafted Idaho Vandal since Ray McDonald, who finished 13th overall to the Washington Redskins.

According to reports, Iupati signed a five-year deal with the 49ers worth $18.25 million, with $10.8 million guaranteed. When David Baas was hospitalized in training camp, he started with the 49ers' first-string offense at left guard.

Iupati had a good start to the 2010 season, with no penalty or allowing a dismissal until Week 5. He made significant contributions to the 49ers' running game, including downfield blocks. Mike Sandos of ESPN selected Iupati to his 2010 All-NFC West team, while the Pro Football Writers Association named him one of their 2010 NFL All-Rookie picks.

Iupati had a stellar season in 2012 and made the 2012 All-Pro first team. He was also one of the six 49ers selected as Pro Bowl starters.

In Super Bowl XLVII, Iupati and the 49ers appeared in Super Bowl XLVII at the end of the 2012 season. He got off the field, but the 49ers lost by 34-31 to the Baltimore Ravens.

Iupati signed a five-year, $40 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals on March 10, 2015. Iupati was hospitalized in an ambulance against the Seattle Seahawks on November 15, with a neck injury. He returned to play every game for the remainder of the season after the 49ers last week. He was selected for his fourth Pro Bowl and Second-Team All-Pro.

Iupati was the Cardinals' starting left guard when the 2017 season began. He sustained a triceps injury in Week 1 and missed the next two games before being placed on injured reserve.

Iupati began ten games as left guard, but two players were out due to a back injury before starting a knee injury in Week 13. On December 3, he was diagnosed with an MCL injury and was put on injured reserve.

Iupati has signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks on March 14, 2019. For the 2019 season, Iupati was selected as a Pro Bowl alternate.

On April 21, 2020, Iupati re-signed with the Seahawks. He played 11 games at left guard before missing six due to injury.

After 11 seasons, Iupati resigned from the NFL on February 22, 2021.
