She told him she was working for Chinese television and asked if they were in view of his camera, then followed up by saying, 'wasn't allowed'. The tourists gathered around the pianist, who kept them informed that they were allowed to film since they were in a public place. We are in Great Britain, but not in China,' he said. As he demanded that James Bulger's killer Jon Venables (right) is never released from jail, a former Met Police chief called for the chemical castration of paedophiles. As the Parole Board refused to allow him to leave prison, former detective Chief Inspector Mike Neville (left) described Venables as "evil personified" this morning, after the kid killer reportedly "lost the plot" while screaming and yelling. The application was turned down by Venables, one of two boys convicted of the murder of two-year-old James (inset), in 1993, after officials said they believed he posed a danger to the public, and 'went mad' as the verdict was delivered.

PETER HITCHENS: I have been befooling people for decades. To do so, I'm in possession of a journalist. And if I look back on my work, I only regret that I did not annoy more of them. Powerful people want to stay out of the media, and news is what they need to hear. Interesting commentary deviates from the mainstream and challenges conventional wisdom. That's why it wears better than the average official opinion over time. We'll have to wait and see how the Ukraine war goes, which is something that virtually everybody agrees is a good thing. However, the near-unanimous interpretation of the Covid crisis back in 2020 is now starting to look a bit stale. Did we really do the right thing, squandering all that money we didn't have on making people stay at home? When these steps were first introduced, I was almost alone in condemning these steps.
