Academic career
Kaku worked on quantum mechanics research at the City College of New York's 1975 to 1977 as part of the university's research program. He served as a visitor and Member (1973-1990) at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and New York University. He is the Henry Semat Chair and Professorship in theoretical physics at the City College of New York as of 2014.
Kaku had papers published in physics journals between 1970 and 2000 on topics including superstring theory, supergravity, supersymmetry, and hadronic physics. In 1974, Kaku and Prof. Keiji Kikkawa of Osaka University co-authored the first papers describing string theory in a field form.
Kaku is the author of several books on string theory and quantum field theory. Kaku and Keiji Kikkawa gave an indepth account of the second-quantization of the light-cone string.
