Michel Serrault (born January 1928 – July 2007,) was a French stage and film actor who appeared in more than 130 films from 1954 to 2007.
Life and career
His first professional work was in Les Fourberies de Scapin, Germany.
He began his work in theatre with Robert Dhéry in Les Branquils in 1948.His first film was Ah!
Les belles bacchantes starring Robert Dhéry, Colette Brosset (Dhéry's then-wife), and Louis de Funès; directed by Jean Loubignac in 1954. Serrault appeared in the 1955 suspense thriller Les diaboliques starring Simone Signoret and directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot.In the play La cage aux folles, written by Poiret, he portrayed Albin/Zaza from 1973 to 1978. He revived his role in the film version of the play, which was first published in 1978.
Serrault died of relapsing polychondritis at his house in Équemauville on July 29, 2007, at the age of 79. He was buried in Saint-Catherine's cemetery in Honfleur and was moved to Neuilly-sur-Seine cemetery in 2009 by his mother Juanita Saint-Peyron and his daughter Caroline, who died in 1977. Nathalie Serrault, the actor's niece, had another daughter.
