Playing career
Zigomanis was originally selected in the 2nd round, 64th overall, by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. Zigomanis came to an agreement with the Sabres right before the 5 p.m. deadline on June 1, 2001, but there was a typographical mistake in his deal, which was faxed to the league offices. By the time the mistake was discovered, the deadline had passed, and the NHL announced that he would have to re-enter the NHL draft because he had not been signed before the deadline. He re-entered the draft and was ranked 46th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2001. Zigomanis has played in 134 games, scoring 19 goals and 14 assists for 33 points. Zigomanis played four seasons of Junior Hockey for the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League. At the 2001 World Junior Hockey Championships, he represented Canada.
Zigomanis, who is best known for his keen vision, soft hands, and an amazing passing touch, as well as his superb hands and great command of the faceoff, has molded his role as a third-line playmaker. On February 16, 2007, the Coyotes agreed to a contract extension through the 2008-09 season. He was traded to the Penguins on October 9, 2008, for future considerations. Zigomanis provided faceoff and penalty killing experience while in Pittsburgh.
On October 19, 2009, he registered for a professional tryout with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. Zigomanis played only seven games but managed to score 13 points (all assists) before leaving for Europe on November 10, 2009, when he signed with Djurgrdens IF of the Swedish Elitserien.
Zigomanis signed as a free agent to return to Toronto on July 15, 2010, as part of a one-year, two-way contract with the Maple Leafs. Zigomanis signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs worth $665,000 on the NHL level and $300,000 at the AHL level on July 12, 2011.
Zigomanis re-signed with the Marlies on July 30, 2012, after achieving career highs of 61 points during the 2011–12 season, he decided to stay with the Marlies and was re-signed to a one-year AHL deal as a free agent.
Zigomanis signed an AHL-only deal with the Rochester Americans, the Buffalo Sabres' minor-league affiliate, on July 10, 2013.
Frank D'Angelo, the Toronto Maple Leafs' Chief Energy Drinks CEO, has signed him to a non-competent deal. However, Zigomanis was demoted to the club's minor league affiliate, and nude photographs of the player, which he had sent to an ex-girlfriend, surfaced online, citing a breach of employment for reportedly not living up to a morals clause in the deal. Zigomanis was sued for breach of employment and reached a deal.
