Michael Tait Life

Michael DeWayne Tait (born May 18, 1966) is a contemporary Christian musician.

When Michael Tait was in high school in 1984, he met Toby McKeehan.

Both Toby and Michael met Kevin Max while attending Liberty University in the late 1980s, and together they formed four-time Grammy Award-winning band DC Talk, with whom Michael Tait has released five critically acclaimed studio albums.

Tait is the current lead singer of Newsboys and one third of the Christian rock band DC Talk (though the group has been on hiatus since 2000).

Tait has had success as a solo artist, founding Tait in 1997.

He performed as a solo act until 2007.

In 2009, he became the lead vocalist on the Christian pop rock band Newsboys, and although Peter Furler was the lead vocalist on the album In the Hands of God, Tait provided supporting vocals on the project.

Tait is also a self-taught guitar player, apart from singing.

Lynda Randle, a Southern Gospel artist, is Tait's sister.

Tait has five sisters, one of whom is Southern gospel alto singer Lynda Randle.

In February 2016, Tait told Fox News Radio host Todd Starnes that he approved Ted Cruz for president in the 2016 race. Tait signed a letter condemning President Donald Trump's impeachment in December 2019 and was also present at the Evangelicals for Trump rally in January 2020.

Michael Tait Career

Musical career

When Michael Tait was in high school in the Washington, D.C. area, he discovered Toby McKeehan in 1984, and the two became friends, and they began creating music together. When attending Liberty University in the mid-1980s, Michael Tait and Toby McKeehan both met Kevin Max. All three of them formed the four-time Grammy Award-winning band DC Talk and also released five of the finest studio albums. With the debut of Intermission: the Greatest Hits in 2000, the band declared a hiatus, although all three members devoted themselves to solo projects. The band hasn't appeared together since 2001 (except for one time in Redmond, Washington, 2005, and when TobyMac made a surprise guest appearance at Winter Jam in 2010 in Nashville and sang "Jesus Freak" with Tait). Following the September 11, 2001 attacks, the three performers have recorded four songs together since the announcement of the hiatus, as well as a remix of "The Cross" on TobyMac's 2004 album "Let's Roll."

Tait spent more time with his band Tait (which he named after his father, Nathel) after the DC Talk's hiatus was announced. About 1997, Tait had part formed this band. Guitar Pete Stewart (from the hard rock band Grammatrain), who appears on the first album, but he was unable to attend the second one due to his departure from the band to pursue his own solo projects. Tait revealed in 2006 that they were working on an album titled Loveology. Despite the fact that Michael is now touring as the Newsboys' frontman, he also wants to bring Loveology. In an interview with John Dibiase of Jesusfreakhideout.com, he said that Loveology is still in the works and that it will be a separate venture from the Newsboys. "Loveology is going to be something we're going to be writing about shortly," Michael said in the interview. I can't tell you right now, but it's a project involving the boys and I and Ben Moody, which is another whole music project."

Michael Tait, the current lead singer of Newsboys, was unveiled in a formal statement on March 9, 2009. Incidentally, Tait's former group, DC Talk, toured with Newsboys in the 1990s. Tait surprised the audience by playing as Newsboys' lead singer for the first time and announcing that he will be the band's new lead singer on March 7, 2009. "For years, dc Talk and Newsboys have been a family, and have thus shared the same followers," Tait said in a formal statement published on March 9. I was speechless when Newsboys first called me to consider joining the band as the lead singer. I flooded the heavens with endless prayers for insight and vision, and I soon found a lasting and definite peace. Last weekend, I had the opportunity to perform my first show as the Newsboys' frontman to a 12,000 audience. Newsboys' followers were overwhelmingly wrapped in love and encouragement, and they are certainly the most devoted followers on the planet. Now I know this is exactly where I belong in this enthralling and joyful moment in my life's history. This is a definite highlight of my career and 20+ years of walking with Jesus, and I am humbled, proud, and privileged to call myself a Newsboy."

On the 2009 album In the Hands of God, former Newsboys lead singer Peter Furler appeared, but Michael Tait and Jamie Rowe of Guardian provided support vocals. During a performance at Disney's Night of Joy 2009, Furler's last appearance as lead vocalist took place. Michael did lead vocals on the majority of the songs, but Peter did come out to lead the song "Breakfast."

The reborn Newsboys revealed details about their 15th studio album (and first with Tait on lead vocals), Born Again, which was released on July 13.

That was followed by Christmas!

A Newsboys Holiday features a previously unreleased Tait song. God's Not Dead, and the live version of Newsboys Live in Concert, was released in 2011.

The Newsboys opened Stand on October 1, 2021, shortly after the introduction of Love Riot and United. Toby Mac as a guest appeared on the band's special version of "Stand."
