Early life
Michael Bakari Jordan was born in Santa Ana, California, to Donna and Michael A. Jordan on February 9, 1987. Jamila's sister, Jamila, and Khalid's younger brother, Khalid, who signed to be a football player at Howard University in 2010. Jordan's family lived in California for two years before moving to Newark, New Jersey. He attended Newark Arts High School, where his mother works and where he played basketball.

Jordan has lived in Los Angeles since 2006. He grew up in a religious household and believes himself to be spiritual. He lives with his parents in a Sherman Oaks house that he bought in 2018. Jordan is also a fan of anime, particularly Naruto: Shippuden and the Dragon Ball series.

Career
Before deciding to pursue a career as an actor, Jordan worked for many companies and brands, including Modell's sporting goods and Toys "R" Us. In 1999, he began his career as a professional actor, appearing in single episodes of Cosby and The Sopranos. When he first appeared in Hardball, which starred Keanu Reeves, it was his first principal film role. In 2002, he attracted more attention by playing Wallace in HBO's first season.
He appeared on All My Children in March 2003, replacing Chadwick Boseman, who was playing Reggie Montgomery, a struggling teen, until Jordan was released from his service in June 2006.
