Michael Angelakos Life

Michael John Angelakos (born May 19, 1987) is an American musician of Greek descent, a singer, songwriter and record producer.

He is best known as the frontman of the indie electronic band Passion Pit.

Personal life

At seven, he started his first band, Dead Grass, and made himself a canvas tote bag as personal merchandise, emblazoned with a painting of a meadow on fire and fake band members lying about. While living in Buffalo, he developed an appreciation for ska, forming a local ska band, Cherry Bing. He also experimented with a number of other musical ventures throughout his years at Nichols School, delving into different musical forms and composition expanding his musical acumen. During this time, he became proficient in putting his musical thoughts directly and quickly into sound. Within one hour, he wrote and recorded the music for a high school play. He performed onstage for that production, which was performed at the Fringe Festival in Scotland. While he attended Emerson College, in the 2000s, he developed a love for opera, the soprano voice, show tunes, and slowcore indie rock, continuing to compose scores for school film majors.

Angelakos married Kristina Mucci in 2013. On August 27, 2015, the couple announced that they were divorcing. In the same year, he came out as bisexual.

On July 16, 2012, Angelakos posted on the Passion Pit website that the band had canceled the remaining July 2012 tour dates and suspended the tour in order for Angelakos to seek ongoing treatment for bipolar disorder. A Rolling Stone interview stated that Angelakos was diagnosed at 17, and had been receiving therapy, hospital care, and medication ever since. Two days later, Pitchfork ran a cover story explaining the nature of Angelakos' health issues and its ties to Passion Pit's second album. It was revealed he was on suicide watch. On March 4, 2013, The Huffington Post reported about Angelakos' evident recovery as Passion Pit performed a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden on February 8, 2013. The article cited Angelakos as being "in one of the best places he's ever been".

Angelakos, with his company The Wishart Group, together with co-founder Bianca Campuued and neuroscientists David and Michael Wells, is working to bring changes in the music industry with regards to mental health.

Michael Angelakos Career

Career

Angelakos at Emerson College wrote the first Passion Pit songs, which would later be called the Chunk of Change EP, as a belated Valentine's Day gift to his then-girlfriend. He wrote and performed all of his work alone on a notebook at first. Ian Hultquist, who was attending Berklee at the time, approached Angelakos and expressed an interest in creating and performing music together. They formed an alliance with Angelakos, Hultquist, Ayad Al Adhamy, Thom Plasse (bass), and Adam Lavinsky (drums). The band spent a considerable amount of time trying to establish a collaborative style and structure that would suit them best. Jeff Apruzzese and Nate Donmoyer joined the band shortly after they signed to Frenchkiss in 2008, replacing Plasse and Lavinsky, respectively. Adhamy was replaced by Xander Singh in 2012, and he was recalled in 2012.

Chunk of Change, the band's debut album, was released on September 16, 2008. The first four tracks were those that Angelakos had written as a gift for his wife, which had already become popular on the Emerson College campus, where Angelakos was attending classes at the time, and he was giving out his own, self-produced copies.

"Sleepyhead" was the first and only single to be released from the EP, earning a large amount of buzz via its placement in various media campaigns and advertisements, as well as Pitchfork's Top 40 Music Videos of 2008 list. The album includes excerpts from Mary O'Hara's "Ró Mo Bháid" album.

Other songs from the EP received some exposure as well. In an advertisement for O2, Money in the United Kingdom, "Cuddle Fuddle" was featured in E4's second series of The Inbetweeners and "I've Got Your Number."

Manners, the band's first full-length studio album, was released in the United Kingdom and Canada on May 18, 2009 and May 19, 2009. The band performed their first appearance on a Rocks Off boat cruise in New York City on the 18th.

Passion Pit enlisted the services of the PS22 chorus, who performed vocals in-studio for three of Manners' songs: "The Reeling," "Little Secrets," and "Let Your Love Grow Tall" in order to obtain a specific background vocal accompaniment. "The Reeling" was the first single to be released from the album and reached number 34 in October, where it soared to the top of the Billboard Alternative Songs chart in the fall of 2009, where it debuted at number 34 on the chart and debuted at number 39, where it debuted at number 39. "Let Your Love Grow Tall" was never released as a single, but it did have some exposure in the sixteenth episode of the television show "Ugly Betty"'s fourth season.

"To Kingdom Come" was the album's second single and was used in the Rhapsody commercial for its iPhone version.

Chunk of Change's "Sleephead" was the only track from the album to be released on the album, and as a discovery download in 2009, it was also available on iTunes for free. Through its appearances in advertisements, the band gained more exposure. It was included in a season 3 episode of the teen drama Skins, as well as in the band's debut trailer for LittleBigPlanet 2, which resulted in the band's increasing success among fans and followers of the game, and the band eventually released an in-game instrumental version of the song for the first game. When the sequel was announced, it came with the song's original instrumental version included in the trailer.

In the fourth episode of the CW teen drama "Moth's Wings" and in the closing credits of episode 36 of HBO's Big Love, the song "Moth's Wings" was performed. It appeared in the FIFA ten video game and was included in the film Life as We Know It, starring Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel. In addition, the track has been used as a background theme for Sky Sports' coverage of the UEFA Champions League and as the soundtrack for a dance routine in Episode 5, Season 8 of the US television show So You Think You Can Dance, which received a standing ovation from the show's judges. It was also included in MTV's show Awkward.

The band appeared at the Glastonbury Festival 2009 in Pilton, Somerset, England, where they dedicated the final song of their set to festival headliner Jarvis Cocker, who would appear on the same stage later that day. The band then mistook Passion Pit's show for the whole set to Cocker, according to NME.

Manners were reissued in a deluxe edition format on April 13, 2010; with new artwork and three additional tracks: stripped-down versions of "Sleephead" and "Moth's Wings" as well as a deluxe edition of The Cranberries' "Dreams." The Deluxe Edition debuted during the tour of North America's headlining tour.

In June 2010, the band unveiled another cover, this time offering their take on The Smashing Pumpkins' hit song "Tonight, Tonight" as part of Levi's "Pioneer Sessions."

Passion Pit toured with Muse in September 2010 as their opening act for eight shows during their fall tour of parts of the United States. The band headlined the Campus Consciousness Tour, produced by Pretty Polly Productions in collaboration with Guster guitarist Adam Gardner's non-profit group Reverb in response to those supporting shows. The two-week tour debuted stops on twelve college campuses, in addition to the music, and it was focused on promoting eco-friendly lifestyles. Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears and K. Flay were among the tour's opening acts.

Angelakos said in an interview with NME in August that work on the sequel to Manners had already begun and that the band had intended to debut the album in 2011. It was then announced that it would be released early in 2012, but that the release date was July 24.

Angelakos revealed on April 24, 2012, the album's name, Gossamer, will be released on July 24, 2012.

"Take a Walk," Gossamer's first track, "Take a Walk," was announced on May 7.

"I'll Be Alright" was Gossamer's second track on June 12, "I'll Be Alright." Early on June 11, the track leaked early and was announced as an NME premiere on June 8.

Pitchfork reviewed and selected "Constant Conversations," Gossamer's third track "Constant Conversations" on July 9. The paper was published as streamed content. Gossamer was first released on July 20, 2012.

They appeared on Saturday Night Live on October 13, October 13. They appeared on "Take a Walk" and "Carried Away."

"Recess," Angelakos, Kill The Noise, and Fatman Scoop appeared on "Recess," the second single and championship track from American record producer Skrillex's debut album Recess. On July 7, 2014, the single was announced.

Kindred, a new album, was announced on January 29, in the United States. On April 21, the album was released.

The official track listing was announced on February 16.

The official Passion Pit blog shared clues to the new song's lyrics and melodies in the form of Morse-encoded lyrics with the track number and time code, as well as 4 – ten seconds of melody for a select few songs from the start of 2015 to its release on April 21, as well as the album's release on April 21.

The album Tremendous Sea of Love was self-released on March 24. This came just a month after an announcement in a tweet eviding the importance of science and research.

The album's official launch of the album was scheduled on July 11 to be on July 28.
