Micah D. Fowler (born March 5, 1998) is an American actress with cerebral palsy.
He is best known for his appearances in Labor Day and as JJ DiMeo in the television show Speechless.
Fowler has also appeared in Blue's Clues and Sesame Street.
Early life
Kelsey Fowler's younger brother grew up in Barnegat Township, New Jersey. He and his sister were able to perform in local theater productions together. Fowler thought he might like to advance his acting career after his sister began performing on Broadway.
Personal life
Fowler's senior year as a Speechless player had to move from New Jersey to Los Angeles, and he also missed much of his sled hockey season and much of his senior year.
Although Fowler had previously been reluctant on social media, after landing the role, he became active on Instagram and Twitter in an attempt to advertise the show.
"I couldn't help but note the lack of characters dealing with disabilities" as he grew up. Fowler may also be in a Star Wars film or a Marvel film in the future.
Career
Micah D. Fowler started acting at the age of 5, which culminated in his appearances on Blue's Clues and Sesame Streets. At the age of thirteen, he registered for Labour Day. He discovered out he had booked the role on his eighteenth birthday in his most recent role as "JJ DiMeo" on Speechless. Fowler said in a People magazine interview that it was the "best birthday gift ever."
He said it is a challenge to play JJ in relation to his role on Speechless. Although Fowler is able to speak, the JJ character is not able to, so Fowler must compensate with dramatic facial expressions and body movements. Fowler's humour, according to the show's creators, makes the show's biggest laughs. He said he sometimes wants to blurt out what he's feeling or saying. Fowler and the character he portrays are both cerebral palsy, and he is one of the few actors with a disability who appears on primetime television.
