Meshach Taylor Life

Meshachach Taylor (April 11, 1947 – June 28, 2014) was an American actor.

He was Emmy-nominated for his role as Anthony Bouvier on CBS' Designing Women (1986-1993).

He was also known for his portrayal of Hollywood Montrose, a flamboyant window dresser in Mannequin.

He appeared on CBS sitcom Dave's World (1993–97), as Sheldon Baylor opposite Dabney Coleman, and on Nickelodeon's short-lived NBC sitcom Buffalo Bill opposite Dabney Coleman.

Early life

Taylor was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and Joseph T. Taylor, the former dean of students at Dillard University in New Orleans, who was also the first dean of arts and sciences at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis.

Taylor graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1964, where he first became interested in acting, and went on to study in the dynamic arts programs at Wilmington College (Ohio) and Florida A&M University. He left Florida A&M a few credits shy of graduation and spent time in Indianapolis as a state house reporter for AM radio station WIFE (now WTLC), where he used the on-air name Bruce Thomas and as the host of a community-affairs program on television station WLWI (now WTHR). Bruce Taylor (now WTHR) as Bruce Taylor. He earned his bachelor's degree in theater arts from Florida A&M in May 1993.

Personal life

Bianca Ferguson, a 1983 actress, married Taylor in 1983. He had four children, three in Bianca and one from his previous marriage. Tamar, Esme, Yasmine, and son Tariq are his children; he had four grandchildren.

In a national tour of Hair, Taylor's first professional appearance gig was on a national tour of Hair. As a member of Chicago's Goodman Theatre Company and the Organic Theater Company, Joe Mantegna, André DeShields, Dennis Franz, Keith Szarabajka, Jack Wallace, and director Stuart Gordon honed his craft in repertory theater as a member of Goodman Theatre Company and the Organic Theater Company alongside Joe Mantegna, André DeShields, Dennis Franz, Keith Szarabajka, Jack Wallace. While in Chicago, he appeared in David Rabe's Native Son (1979 Joseph Jefferson Award for Actor in a Play) The Island and Athol Fugard's Sizwe Banzi Is Dead, which earned him the 1977 Joseph Jefferson Award for Actor in a Principal Role in a Play. He received an Emmy Award for his role as Jim in the WTTW production of Huckleberry Finn and produced the Chicago television show Black Life. Taylor made his Broadway debut in 1998 as Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast, where he appeared alongside Toni Braxton. JC Bridges, a Vietnam veteran, appeared in Year of the Rabbit at Ensemble Studio Theater-LA in September 2012.

Taylor migrated to Los Angeles in 1977, where he created a collection of memorable characters on film and television, including his Emmy nominated appearance in the CBS sitcom Designing Women. Anthony Bouvier, the deliveryman at the fictitious Sugarbaker interior design firm in Atlanta, Georgia, was played by Taylor. He received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 1989. In May 1981, the ninth season of M*A*S*H, he was seen as a corpse in the final episode, "The Life You Save."

He appeared on Dave's World as plastic surgeon Sheldon Baylor, and on Nickelodeon's sitcom, Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide (2004–07) and Buffalo Bill, alongside Dabney Coleman, from 1993 to 1997, he appeared on Nickelodeon's World (CBS), and as Alastair Wright, the history teacher turned school principal, and was a regular on NBC's Declassified School Survival Guide (2004–07).

Taylor hosted his own series on HGTV, The Urban Gardener with Meshach Taylor in 1996, and on 1998, Taylor hosted Meshach Taylor's Hidden Caribbean on The Travel Channel. He served on the committee on To Tell the Truth's revival in 2000.

Before appearing together in the musical Hair in 1969, Taylor and actor Joe Mantegna were best friends. Taylor appeared in Criminal Minds' eighth season in "The Fallen" starring Mantegna as Harrison Scott, Rossi's former Marine sergeant with whom he served in Vietnam. He reprised his role in "The Road Home" on January 22, 2014, just five months before his death, in January 2014. On January 21, 2015, Mantegna produced "Anonymous," the tenth season of Criminal Minds.
