Melissa Wells (born 27 January 1990) is a British actress best known for her appearance in Channel 4's soap opera Hollyoaks.
Early life
Walton attended Bablake School in Coventry, Coventry, before receiving a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts at Stratford-upon-Avon College, which she obtained with three distinctions. Walton, an amateur performer, appeared in pantomime at Belgrade Theatre in Coventry and was a member of the Coventry youth group YOG and attended Three Spires Dance School. She appeared alongside actress Julie Walters in the BBC drama Filth while at college. Walton completed her diploma in June 2008 and was cast in Hollyoaks in August. Walton appeared in the spin-off series Hollyoaks Later on a three-episode basis.
Career
Lucy Allen, Hollyoaks' current producer, had opted to bring Walton to the main stage in 2009. Walton had impressed Allan with her appearance in Hollyoaks Later. Walton took pole-dancing lessons and visited a lap dancing club to prepare for the job. She did not perform well at the club and went out of her underwear after watching girls play. She also had a pole in her living room to continue practicing. "I loved it," Walton said about her study. It's a good workout. It's really good for toning. They didn't ask me to, but I did... I went to pole dancing lessons. In my living room, I had poles put up."
Walton had been on probation for three months before signing on. Allan renewed her deal in 2009 and stayed with the series until 2010. Allan resigned from the position of executive producer in early 2010, and Paul Marquess took over. Marquess wanted to give Hollyoaks a "shake up," re-ethicating the production team and launching a cast cull by axing three established characters, which was revealed soon. All remaining cast members feared their character would be axed, according to Stephanie Waring (who plays Cindy Hutchinson) and then revealed that they were worried about their character. Marquess revealed plans to axe a further 11 characters, including Loretta at the end of Walton's employment. Walton departed with co-star Kevin Sacre, who portrayed her on-screen love interest Jake Dean.
On June 8, 2010 Walton and two other cast members, Scare and Gerard McCarthy (who plays Kris Fisher), shot their final scenes together on the serial. She expressed her dissatisfaction with her coworkers' departures, but then said she was looking forward to investigating other avenues. Walton also stated that she was relieved that the door was left open for a potential return, and that she would consider reprising her role as Loretta in the future. Walton said she understood why Marquess cut her because he didn't think Loretta had anything left to go after her main plotline, in which her character was supposed to be revealed as a child killer, was canceled due to Denise Fergus' appeals. However, she did not get another opportunity to prove herself.
