Melissa Sagemiller (born June 1, 1974) is an American television and film actress.

She is best known for her appearances in films Get Over It (2001), Soul Survivors (2001), Sorority Boys (2001), The Guardian (2004), and Mr. Woodcock (2007).

Sagemiller appeared in television dramas Sleeper Cell (2005–06), Raising the Bar (2008–09), and From 2010 to 2011, she played A.D.A. Gillian Hardwicke in the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Early life

Sagemiller was born in Washington, D.C., to Donna Sagemiller, a political activist mother who served as a comptroller during Jimmy Carter's tenure, and Charlie Evans, a professional American football player father who competed in the NFL for the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins, on June 1, 1974. She attended Georgetown Day School. When she began studying tap dance, ballet, jazz dance, and modern dance, she found herself in the performing arts at the age of 3. She made her stage debut in To Kill a Mockingbird when she was 9 years old, and within a few years, she became a regular on her local stage. Sagemiller was scouted by Eileen Ford in a jewelry store at 14 years old, but acting took a backseat to modeling. She then left modeling to pursue an undergraduate degree in Art History at the University of Virginia.

Personal life

After he first introduced her in the South of France in July 2006, Sagemiller became engaged to her Sleeper Cell co-star Alex Nesic in July 2006. Both the couple have two children.

Career

She returned to acting full time after graduation and studied at the Stella Adler Conservatory, New York University's Stonestreet Studio, and Michael Howard Studios. In August 2001, Sagemiller was featured in a Movieline magazine. Sagemiller first appeared in Gear magazine in November 2001. She appeared in numerous teen films, including Get Over It and Sorority Boys, in early career, and she was lead actress in the 2002 drama Soul Survivors.

Sagemiller portrayed Michelle Ernhardt in the TNT series Raising the Bar from 2008 to 2009. Sagemiller joined Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in a recurring role as ADA Gillian Hardwicke after the show was cancelled. When Patton left the series after just one episode, she replaced Paula Patton. Sagemiller appeared in ten episodes of the 12th season of the series. Stephanie March and Diane Neal were both fired in the 13th season. In 2013, she was cast as a lead on Chicago Fire spinoff Chicago P.D., but she was forced to leave during pre-production.

Sagemiller is one of many actresses to have accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault and bullying.
