Career
Blatt performed under the name Melanie Guillaume in the 1993 band Drive with Julienne Davis. They've got "Curfew" together on a single. Denise van Outen was also involved in backing vocals for Dreadzone. Blatt met Shaznay Lewis at the Metamorphosis recording studio in All Saints Road, London, later this year. They formed All Saints 1.9.7.5, which was later renamed to All Saints as Rainford left and Nicole and Natalie Appleton joined Blatt and Lewis together, with Simone Rainford.
All Saints released their debut single "I Know Where It's At" in 1997, and they debuted at number 4 in the United Kingdom. The group's second single "Never Ever," which introduced the group to international prominence after dominating the charts in the United Kingdom and Australia and achieving the top ten in Europe, Canada, and the United States, was released in the same year. The British Phonographic Industry awarded double platinum to the single in the United Kingdom and was sold over 1.2 million copies. The group's debut album All Saints debuted in the United Kingdom and was ranked second in the UK and was given a gold medal five times for 1.5 million sales. The group earned two additional number one singles the following year, including "Under the Bridge / Lady Marmalade" and "Bootie Call." The group released a new single named "Pure Shores," which was used in the film The Beach and also reached the top of the charts in the United Kingdom in 2000. The single was rated platinum for sales over 600,000 copies. Saints & Sinners' second album, "Black Coffee," was followed shortly by their fifth number one single, "Black Coffee," their second album. The album was eventually rated double platinum by the BPI for sales over 600,000. The group broke apart and cited the reasons for this in early 2001, following the announcement of their single "All Hooked Up," Shaznay Lewis, who revealed specifics of internal tensions between the two parties.
Blatt appeared in the film Honest starring Nicole and Natalie Appleton in 2000, and she appeared in the independent British film Dog Eat Dog in 2001.
Blatt's solo debuts were met with varying success; her most notable was "TwentyFourSeven," a joint venture with the Artful Dodger, topped at No. 6 in September 2001. Melanie began recording on her debut solo album in 2002 and met with a variety of designers, including Sony Music production team Xenomania. "Do Me Wrong," her debut single in late 2003, reached number 18 in the UK, leading to Blatt's being dropped by her label due to low charting. The album on which she was working was postponed, resulting in the cancellation of her forthcoming single "Blue" by her, but it was later revealed on British singer Amelia Lily's debut album Be a Fighter, on which she worked with Xenomania. Blatt made a comeback to music in 2005 with the release of his new album "See Me," which was used in the Robots film. She started working on a new album with Sowlen Ankle Ltd, which was written by Matt Hales of Aqualung and released it. During 2005, Blatt appeared at small venues in the United Kingdom that featured songs from the album she was on at the time, such as "I Don't Care," "Now You're Gone," and "Love Sweet Love." Blatt's solo career was shelved in favour of the All Saints reunion.
The band had reformed and signed a historic contract with Parlophone on January 24, 2006. Studio 1 is their third studio album, and they've continued to work on their third studio album, Studio 1. "Rock Steady" (first released in November 2006) debuted in number three on the UK Singles Chart, gaining number three. According to the BPI, Studio 1 made the top charts and sold 60,000 copies, earning the BPI acclaim. "Chick Fit," a second single, failed to crack the top 200. In an interview with i-D magazine in 2012, Blatt addressed the reunion's inability: "I don't think it was done for the right reasons..." I know I did it for the money. We were signed before we even started making music again, but it wasn't like we had something to give back to the world; we were given the opportunity and tried it without really thinking about it too hard." She also said she never felt comfortable with the band's success, and that "it wasn't really the scheme at the start; there was a lot of compromise involved."
With co-hosts Nicole Appleton, Dave Berry, Emma Willis, and Jayne Sharp, Blatt has been on television2 since 2007. Angela Griffin's show Angela and Friends was a journalist from 2009 to 2010. Melanie Blatt was announced in January 2013 that she would join Daniel Bedingfield, Stan Walker, and Ruby Frost as a judge/mentor on the New Zealand version of The X Factor: "I can't wait to see what kind of artists and voices we will find in New Zealand." Blatt will be mentoring the Groups category. Lilyella and her daughter Lilyella will be in the United States for the remainder of the series, according to news. Blatt said she is "making music" in February 2013 and that when asked about a solo comeback, she said she would do something she had never imagined in a million years.
Both Blatt and Stan Walker will return to judge the second season of the X Factor NZ on September 11, 2014, as well as returning host Dominic Bowden. Blatt and Walker will be joined by new husband-wife pair Willy Moon and Natalia Kills before their dismissal, and then by Natalie Bassingthwaite and Shelton Woolwright. Blatt mentored the Over 25's and came 5th with her contestant Steve Broad, who came in 5th place.
All Saints reformed in 2014 to help the Backstreet Boys for five days in the United Kingdom and Ireland. All Saints will debut their fourth studio album, Red Flag, on January 27, 2016. "One Strike," the album's lead single, preceded it on February 26th.
