Margaret Foster (born May 10, 1948) is an American actress who appeared in the television miniseries version of The Scarlet Letter and the films Ticket to Heaven, The Osterman Weekend, and many other series.
Early years
Foster was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, to David and Nancy Foster, and grew up in Rowayton, Connecticut, with four children; brothers Gray, Jan. and Nina; and brother Ian. She spent time at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York.

Career
Foster appeared in John Brown's Body's at Cornell Summer Theater production in 1968. She appeared in The Empire Builders' off-Broadway version in 1968.
Foster took on the lead of Detective Christine Cagney in the Cagney & Lacey TV series when Loretta Swit was unable to reprise her television film role when the film was reimagined into the Cagney & Lacey TV series, before she was replaced by Sharon Gless. "It isn't a pretty tale, no matter who you talk to," entertainment columnist Dick Kleiner wrote about Foster's demise from the show in August 1982: "It isn't a pretty tale." Meg was so hurt and angry that she isn't talking anymore. However, she told people that she looked as though she had been struck by a car." Foster's departure from the show, according to Kleiner's account, cost her other opportunities. "She was an in-demand actress before the news broke," he wrote.
Foster worked in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. She appeared on two episodes of Hawaii Five-O (1973 and 1976), three for the Road (1975), and the Star Trek: "The Muse" (1996).
