Maya Jama Life

Maya Indea Jama (born 14 August 1994) is a British television and radio presenter.

She has appeared on several television networks as a current MTV and Channel 4 host, as she co-presented Trending Live! 4Music from 2015 to 2017, as well as co-presenting Cannonball on ITV in 2017.

Jama now hosts a BBC Radio 1 show on Fridays and Saturdays at 10 a.m. and co-presented the MTV show True Love or True Lies with Danny Dyer.

Alice Levine appeared on Channel 4 as The Circle's first series. Jama has now joined long-standing Alan Carr and Adam Hills as co-presenters Stand Up to Cancer.

In summer 2018, Maya unveiled her own line with fashion brand Pretty Little Thing.

In addition to being a global GAP ambassador, she has also worked for Adidas and Burberry as well as being involved in a global GAP campaign.

Jama became the youngest person to host the MOBO Awards in 2017, a feat shared by fellow host Marvin Humes.

Early life

Jama was born and raised in Bristol, where she attended Cotham School. She is of Somali descent on her father's side and Swedish descent on her mother's side. Sadie, her mother, was 19 when she gave birth to Jama, and she named her after Maya Angelou, the US author and poet. Omar is also a girl's brother.

For the majority of her childhood, Jama's father was in jail for violent offences such as pub brawls and wars. Aged 12, she decided not to visit her father in prison and barred him from thinking about him for a decade. In a 2017 interview with The Guardian, she said she didn't realise it was a problem: "It was normal for me." My dad's family was extremely helpful, and they did everything possible to make me and my brother not feel like we were missing out on anything." While filming When Dads Kill in 2017, which was based on young people's experiences, she relented and explored her relationship with her own father before being released from jail in an attempt to get straight answers from him; "nothing he said" and nothing his family told her gave her any honest insight into why she ended up in prison.

Jama is still close to her mother, and on occasion, the two women appear on talk shows together and attend private celebrity functions.

Personal life

Jama lives in West London.

She is a huge football fan and supports both Bristol Rovers and West Ham United.

Jama's tweet when she was 17 appeared on a tweet mocking dark-skinned black women. After being accused of colourism, she apologised, saying that she was "an ignorant, stupid child" when the social media blog was published in 2012.

Jama was in a love with British rapper Stormzy between 2015 and 2019, and their break-up inspired their 2019 album "Lessons." Jama was dating NBA player Ben Simmons in 2021. According to reports, the couple ended their relationship in August 2022.
