Marvin Minoff Career

Career

His career in the entertainment industry began as a talent agent with the William Morris Agency in New York City. Minoff went to International Famous Artists (IFA; the forerunner of International Creative Management; ICM). He was promoted to Vice President of the IFA's motion picture branch. During his fifteen years at the talent companies, including Cicely Tyson, screenwriters Bruce Joel Rubin, and director Sidney Lumet, Minoff worked with a number of well-known celebrities, including Cicely Tyson, screenwriters Bruce Joel Rubin and David W. Rintel. He also sold several films, including the 1970 film Love Story and the 1971 blockbuster film The French Connection.

Minoff left IFA and the talent agency to become the president of David Paradine Television, which had been established by journalist David Frost in 1974. Minoff, the company's president, worked with television executive John Birt to co-executive produce The Nixon Interviews by Frost of Richard Nixon. The interviews, which took place three years after Nixon's resignation from office, were broadcast in syndication in 1977. The Nixon Interviews would later be turned into a Broadway play, which in turn provided the inspiration for Ron Howard's 2008 film Frost/Nixon, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. In the film, actor Keith MacKechnie portrayed Minoff.

Minoff was also interviewed with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, as President of Paradine Television. In addition, Minoff produced several television films for Paradine, including Dynasty (based on James Michener's book "The Ordeal of Patty Hearst") and Portrait of a Rebel (starring Margaret Sanger).

Minoff began working as an indie producer in the early 1980s and spent a while on television. In 1985, Farrell/Minoff Productions, which produced a series of made-for-TV films, joined actor and producer Mike Farrell. Minoff and Farrell will work closely together in a professional collaboration for the next twenty-five years. Both Farrell and Minoff had arranged an agreement with Walt Disney Pictures to develop in 1986. Fred Savage, Ed Asner, Helen Hunt, Jill Clayburgh, Missy Crider, Patricia Wettig, and Tess Harper were among their numerous television films.

Minoff and Farrell produced two feature films together. Dominick and Eugene, 1988's Dominick and Eugene for Orion Pictures, which received actor Tom Hulce a Golden Globe Award for best actor. Farrell and Minoff co-produced Patch Adams in 1998, which starred Robin Williams.
