Matt Reeves Life

Matt Reeves (April 27, 1966) is an American filmmaker.

After several years working in film and television, Reeves made his cinematic directorial debut with The Pallbearer (1996), starring David Schwimmer, Gwyneth Paltrow and Toni Collette.

He came to widespread attention with the mainstream hit Cloverfield (2008), going on to helm the romantic horror film remake Let Me In (2010) and the critically acclaimed science fiction sequels Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) and War for the Planet of the Apes (2017).

Reeves will write and direct the superhero film The Batman, which is set in the DC Extended Universe and slated for release in 2021.

Early life

Reeves was born on April 27, 1966, in Rockville Centre, New York, on Long Island. He moved with his family to Los Angeles when he was five.

There he became fascinated by movies, making them from the age of eight, directing friends and using a wind-up camera. Reeves met and befriended J. J. Abrams, who also became a filmmaker, when both were 13 years old. A Los Angeles public-access television cable channel, Z Channel, was airing their short films. When Reeves and Abrams were 15 or 16 years old, Steven Spielberg hired them to transfer some of his own Super 8 films to videotape.

Reeves attended the University of Southern California, where he was a screenwriting student for writer Jeph Loeb. Between 1991 and 1992, he produced a student film, Mr. Petrified Forest, which won an award and helped him acquire an agent. He also co-wrote a script that eventually was developed as Under Siege 2: Dark Territory. After graduating, he co-wrote Cloverfield, which he later directed.

Personal life

Reeves is married to Melinda Wang, a former animator. They have one son together.

Along J. Abrams, Reeves was recognized for co-creating and showrunning the WB drama series Felicity. From 1998 to 2002, the series ran for 84 episodes. Several episodes of the series, including the pilot, were directed by Reeves. Among other television series, Relativity, Homicide: Life on the Street, and Gideon's Crossing were among others.

Reeves has received more success and international recognition for his work on Abrams' science fiction monster film Cloverfield (2008). Reeves spent time as an executive producer on ten Cloverfield Lane (2016) and The Cloverfield Paradox (2018).

He wrote the screenplay and directed Let Me In, a sequel to the Swedish film Let the Right One In. Overture Films released the remake on October 1, 2010.

In October 2011, Reeves agreed to direct a film based on the classic television show The Twilight Zone, but he left the project in September 2012.

Reeves produced Dawn of the Apes (2014), the sequel to Rise of the Apes that received both commercial and critical success. He returned to write and direct the third film in the series War for the Planet of the Apes, which was released on July 14, 2017 to critical acclaim.

Reeves and 20th Century Fox have been a collaborator on a three-year production contract in 2014. Reeves' production contract with Netflix ended in January 2018, resulting in an exclusive first-look film contract for the company under his 6th and Idaho production banner.

Reeves was supposed to produce a film version of Mouse Guard, but Wes Ball was commissioned to direct the film. However, the venture was cancelled two weeks before it was set to begin in April 2019, due to Disney's purchase of 20th Century Fox.

Reeves appeared on Fox's science fiction thriller series The Passage, which aired for one season, as executive producer. Tales from the Loop, Amazon Prime Video science fiction drama series, was also produced by him. In April 2020, the series, which is based on artwork by Simon Stlenhag, received acclaim.

Reeves agreed to a multi-year contract with Warner Bros. Television in July 2020 to produce new television shows for all of the company's platforms, including 6th & Idaho. Reeves appeared as executive producer on Netflix's science-fiction drama Away (2020), starring Hilary Swank.

Reeves was hired in February 2017 to produce The Batman, which will be distributed as part of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). He took over Ben Affleck's initial intention to remain attached as producer and actor before losing completely, with Reeves deciding to rework the film to separate it completely from the DCEU and instead focusing on a younger version of the story, giving him the opportunity to write a more personal story in keeping with his own vision and understanding of the character. Peter Craig co-wrote the screenplay, and principal photography took place in January 2020. The Batman was unveiled in London on February 23, 2022, starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne / Batman. The film is expected to be both the first and the first installment of a new Batman film trilogy as well as a Batman-centric universe.

In August 2020, Reeves was confirmed to produce a television series based on Diane Cook's book The New Wilderness, co-produced by Warner Bros. Television.

He has been announced as the creator of several new works. Reeves was announced to produce a live-action film of Andy Mcdermott's first book, The Hunt for Atlantis, a Netflix feature. Together with Village Roadshow Pictures, Reeves was confirmed as the producer of an English-language version of the Russian science fiction film Sputnik in March 2021.

Reeves, J. Abrams, and Bruce Timm were among the executive producers for a new Batman animated series for HBO Max and Cartoon Network, titled Batman: Caped Crusader. However, HBO Max debuted the series in August 2022, and the series was soon shopped to other networks. Reeves was announced as the producer of Netflix's vampire film Smile in February 2022, with William McGregor directing.

The Penguin, a limited series spin-off of The Batman for HBO Max, will also be produced by Reeves, with Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot/Penguin from the film. Lauren LeFranc will be showrunner.

Reeves was announced in April 2022 to write and direct the sequel to The Batman, alongside Robert Pattinson and F. Gary Gray, starring Kevin Hart, Money Heist and Vincent D'Onofrio. Reeves and Warner Bros. Pictures in August 2022 have signed a multi-year first-look film and television contract.

Actors with their eyes on the trophy cabinet often dive into roles head first - with vast physical transformations earning praise for dedication.
