After a stag night spat over the fare, a groom is knocked and run over by a raging taxi driver on his stag night. The cabbie was jailed for 14 months for the assault

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 21, 2023
Following a spat over a fare dispute, a groom-to-be was left terrified for life. Matt McCarthy and his buddies had escorted Musum Chowdhury's taxi back to the Kenilworth Hotel in Jesmond, Newcastle, where they were staying after a night out for his stag party last May. One of the passengers tried to pay by card, but Chowdhury said he would only accept cash for the £10 fare, so Mr McCarthy was taken to a cashpoint while his companions went into the hotel. According to Kevin Ward, the fare went from £10 to £20 and then £50. Mr McCarthy put £20 in the center console and left the car after returning to the Kenilworth after a trip to the cash machine, according to the court. As Mr McCarthy walked away, he heard the sound of 'tyres screeching and wheels spinning,' but then recalls awakening on the pavement streebling in blood.
