He attended college at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston after high school. He dropped out right after starting his second semester.

LeBlanc started modeling at the age of 17, but was told he was too young to work in modeling. His acting career began after a woman invited him to an audition, where he was eventually signed by her manager. Despite having landed commercials and television and film roles before Friends, Joey Tribbiani was apparently down to his last 11 dollars before landing the role.

Personal life

LeBlanc has a keen interest in cars and worked as a carpenter before being a professional actor. In May 2003, he married Melissa McKnight, a British-born American model and a single mother of two children. They were introduced to each other by McKnight's assistant, Kelly Phillips (wife of actor Lou Diamond Phillips). LeBlanc proposed to her a year later. Their daughter, who was born in 2004, began experiencing seizures at eight months old. The condition, which was thought to be a result of dysplasia, had mostly disappeared by the time she was two years old. In October 2006, LeBlanc and McKnight divorced, citing irreconcilable inconsistencies.

Matthew Perry, the late costar of Friends, was found unresponsive at his Los Angeles home after he drowned in his pool on October 28. Despite hopes that Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer would reunite to celebrate his contributions to the Emmy Awards, Jesse Collins and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay, the show's executive producers, said the actors were too ill to come together. Collins told The Hollywood Reporter, 'We had spoken about it early on.' "But I can imagine, they're still mourning someone who was still very close to them.' I can't speak for them, but we do have to accept that they were their own families. It was probably just a little too soon.' Rouzan-Clay said that his death is still'very new to them.'
