Matthew Done (born 22 July 1988) is an English professional footballer who plays for Rochdale in League One. He joined the club from Sheffield United on August 3rd. Done has also played for Wrexham, Hereford United, Rochdale, Barnsley, and Hibernian in his 11-year playing career.

After returning to Rochdale, in which he did an excellent job in his second spell, he signed for Sheffield United in February 2015.

After a mutual termination of his deal with the Blades in summer 2017, he rejoined former Rochdale for a third spell.

Club career

Done began his playing days at Wrexham through the Centre of Excellence in July 2004 and after progressing through the ranks at the club, he was named to the first team in the aftermath of the club's financial difficulties. In a home loss to Doncaster Rovers that came a month after his 17th birthday as a substitute. On the last day of the season against Darlington, he made his complete debut. Done was offered a professional deal by the club at the end of the 2005-06 season, with some exceptions, mostly a handful of substitute appearances.

Done, Done, came up for the first team squad of the 2006–07 season, his first goal for Wrexham came against Grimsby Town, and he scored against Sheffield Wednesday in a 4–1 victory in the League Cup. Despite appearing as an unused substitute on seven occasions and breaking an ankle injury, Done completed the 2006–07 season, making thirty-eight appearances and scoring two times in all competitions.

Done continued to be the first team regular for the team this season, although he remained an unused replacement on several occasions this season, as well as, his own injury concern. Following the club's transfer to the Football Conference, he was given a new deal by Wrexham in May 2008. However, Done reportedly dropped out of a new deal with Wrexham.

However, he decided to remain in the Football League and signed with Hereford United in June 2008 for an undisclosed fee.

Done made his Hereford United debut in a 2–1 loss to Leyton Orient in the season's first game. On October 8, 2008, he scored his first goal for the club against Swindon Town in the Football League Trophy for the first time. Done returned to his first squad spot and went on to make thirty-nine appearances and scoring once in all competitions despite being relegated back to League Two after losing his first team spot on several occasions during the 2008–09 season.

Done got off to a promising start against Morecambe in a 2–2 draw in the 2009–2010 season. Done, on the other hand, struggled in the first team during the 2009-2010 season, due to the fact that the majority of the season was spent on the replacement bench as well as his own injury concerns. As a result, Done completed the 2009–10 season, making twenty-five appearances in all competitions. Done was released by the club at the end of the 2009–2010 season.

On July 31, 2010 Done signed for League One newcomers Rochdale on a six-month deal.

In a 1–0 loss against Barnsley on August 10, Done made his Rochdale debut in the first round of the League Cup on Sunday. He scored his first goal for the club in the Football League Trophy against Port Vale on August 31, 2010. He didn't score again in a 1–1 draw against Oldham Athletic until November 27, 2010. Done did not sign a deal until the end of the 2010-2011 season due to his success. Done then scored two goals in two games between 8 February 2011 and February 12, 2011, the first two games being a victory. He scored two more goals against Carlisle United and Bournemouth later this year. Done made thirty-five appearances and scoring five times in all competitions from 2010-2011 to the end of the 2011-11 season.

Done made his first appearance of the season against Rochdale in the first round of League Cup in 2012, defeating 120 minutes in 4–3 wins. However, Done sustained a knee injury early in the 2012–13 season. Barnsley later changed manager and new tactics, resulting in Done being overstripped to their needs. Done made fourteen appearances in his second season for Barnsley before leaving the club in January.

Done signed with Hibernian in the Scottish Premier League on loan until the end of the 2012–2013 season. In a 4–2 victory over Kilmarnock in the 2012–13 Scottish Cup, Done scored his first goal for the "Hibees" on March 3rd. Done will leave Barnsley at the end of his deal, according to Barnsley's news on May 9th.

Done expressed his admiration for Rochdale's time as a result of the club's departure, saying that he loved playing every minute for the team and it made him physically ill. Rochdale's manager Keith Hill revealed that his departure resulted from "great success" earned.

Matt Done signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee on February 2, 2015.

Done scored on his Blades debut against Colchester United on February 10, 2015, a 4–1 home win. Done scored a brace against Bristol City on February 14, 2015 in his second match for United. Done went on a scoring spree against Notts County, Peterborough United, Fleetwood Town, and Doncaster Rovers. Done made thirteen appearances and scoring seven times in all competitions during his first half season at Sheffield United.

Done suffered his collarbone injury in the club's pre-season tour, but he was suspended for the first time in the season. Done scored on his first appearance of the 2015-16 season in a 2–1 loss against Port Vale on October 3, 2015. In a 1–1 draw against Oldham Athletic on October 17, he scored again two weeks later. Done scored once more in the club's second round of FA Cup on December 5, 2015, beating Oldham Athletic by 1–0. Done scored twice on his return from a hamstring injury against Bradford City on December 28, 2015, resulting in a 3–3 draw against Wigan Athletic. Done scored his fifth goal of the season on March 5th in a 2–2 draw against Fleetwood Town on March 5th. Done regained his first team position at Sheffield United in early October and went on to make thirty-five appearances and scoring seven times in all competitions.

Done went from 14 to 11 shirts in anticipation of Jose Baxter's departure, who was released at the end of the 2015-16 season.
