Early life
Lagergren was born in snes, Norway. He began playing the piano as an infant. He won a competition to perform with Norwegian pianists Hvard Gimse and Leif Ove Andsnes during that period. Lagergren started mixing on his computer as he grew tired of classical piano. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Music Technology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
Career
"Free Fallin Tropical Mojito Remix (John Mayer Tribute)" was co-produced with fellow tropical house producer Nelsaan and was published on Matoma's 23rd birthday.
Matoma was requested by Universal Germany to make a remix of Marlon Roudette's "When the Beat Drops" in July 2014, which was released one month later.
The Notorious B.I.G.'s remix of "Old Thing Back" was a hit on the radio. When it charted in Norway, it became a hit, peaking at number two on the official Norwegian singles chart, VG-lista. It also charted well in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and New Zealand. After hearing the remix, it reached number one on the music blog aggregator Hype Machine, with many record labels, including Big Beat Records, showing an interest in Matoma's work. Ja Rule, who is on the original track, has also tweeted that he adored the album. At Enrique Iglesias' request, he also remixed the song "Bailando."
Hedegaard, a musician, had a talk with Matoma about a remix of it after hedegaard's single "Happy Home." In September 2014, Copenhagen Records announced this information for the first time. Matoma's remix of Eminem's "Business" was announced in October. Warner Music Norway released a new remix, the Nelsaan & Matoma Remix of Marit Larsen's "I Don't Want to Talk About It" earlier this month. It's the second remix of Nelsaan and Matoma.
Matoma launched a remix of MYNGA with Cosmo Klein's "Back Home" in January 2015. Matoma has released more than 136 tracks on his own SoundCloud page, in total.
He collaborated with British boy band The Vamps on October 15, 2016 to debut the single "All Night." The Vamps first released a music video. The single had 375 million Spotify streams as of February 2019. Matoma and The Vamps' second joint single "Staying Up" was released on September 1, 2017.
He and singer Emma Steinbakken recently performed his new song "WOW" together.
