Marvin Bagley III Career

High school career

As a freshman and Hillcrest Prep in Phoenix, Arizona as a sophomore, Bagley attended Corona del Sol High School in Tempe, Arizona. He was teammates with future #1 pick Deandre Ayton during his sophomore year. He moved to Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, California, in 2016. Due to the California Interscholastic Federation's (CIF) rules, he was ineligible to play his first year at Sierra Canyon. That decision will influence his senior year of high school reclassification, which is a year early. He averaged 24.9 points per game and 10.10 rebounds per game in his last season with Sierra Canyon. In 2017, he will be selected for the All-USA Today First-Team.

Bagley was rated as a top recruit in the 2018 class throughout his high school career and was previously ranked as the best player in the class before his reclassification. Bagley was ranked No. 1 overall recruit and No.1 power forward in the 2017 high school class. When he was 14 years old, he received his first college basketball scholarship from Northern Arizona University.

Bagley was reclassified into the Class of 2017 ahead of starting his senior year of high school. On August 14, 2017, he successfully reclassified as a graduate of Sierra Canyon and was eligible to play college basketball for Duke University during the 2017-18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. He will therefore be eligible to participate in the 2018 NBA draft as an early college freshman. After finishing high school academics a week earlier, he graduated from Sierra Canyon on September 1, 2017 and went to Duke.

College career

Bagley won by 25 points and ten rebounds in a victory over Elon University on November 10, 2017. Bagley was named ACC rookie of the Week on November 13, 2017. Bagley defeated the Texas Longhorns 85–78 in overtime on November 24, scoring 34 points and making a freshman record 15 rebounds for Duke. In an 87–84 victory over the Florida Gators, he tied the freshman record for rebounds and scored 30 points. It was the first time a Duke player had done so since the 1960s. In a 91-81 victory over Indiana, Bagley tallied 23 points and ten rebounds. In a 100-93 victory over the Florida State Seminoles, Bagley scored 32 points and a record 21 rebounds. Bagley received ACC rookie of the week for the third time on December 4, 2017. In an 89-71 victory over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on January 13, 2018, he became the ACC's all-time record holder for the most 30 point, 10 rebound double-doubles in a season. Bagley was named as the top ACC rookie of the week on January 15, 2018. Marvin led to a 74–64 victory over North Carolina on March 3, 2018. He had 21 points and 15 rebounds.

Bagley was named both the ACC's Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year as well as a member of the All-ACC first team at the end of the season. Multiple organisations had him named as a consensus member of the All-American First-Team. In addition to this, Bagley also voted Deandre Ayton and Trae Young as the most freshmen players to join the consensus All-American First-Team in a season.

Bagley revealed that after Duke's loss in the 2018 NCAA men's basketball tournament, he intends to forego his final three seasons of collegiate eligibility and opt for the 2018 NBA draft.

Professional career

Bagley's former high school classmate Deandre Ayton was selected second overall in the 2018 NBA draft, with his former high school teammate Deandre Ayton ranked second overall on June 21, 2018. He signed a rookie scale deal with the Kings on July 1, 2018.

In a 123-117 loss to the Utah Jazz, Bagley made his professional debut with Sacramento on October 17, 2018, with 6 points and 5 rebounds in just 12 minutes. Bagley lost by 19 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks in their next game, two days later. Bagley lost 117–116 to the Golden State Warriors on November 24, with 20 points and 17 rebounds coming off the bench. He strained his left knee during his second match against Golden State on December 14, the first time he had sidelined him for 11 games. In a 123-121 loss to the Brooklyn Nets, in which the Kings led by a 25-point lead in the fourth quarter, Bagley scored a career-high 28 points off the bench on March 19, 2019.

Bagley was discovered to have a non-displaced fracture in his right thumb on October 24, 2019 and was expected to be out for about four to six weeks. Rather, he appeared in 13 games before the season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic on March 11, 2020. On July 19, 2020, he sustained a right foot injury during workouts and was expected to miss the remainder of the 2019-20 season.

The Sacramento Kings reported that they had exercised their right on Bagley on December 4, 2020.

The Kings informed Bagley that he will not be a participant in the rotation if they didn't agree on a contract extension before the 2021–22 season.

Bagley was traded to the Detroit Pistons on February 10, 2022, as part of a four-team trade that brought Donte DiVincenzo, Josh Jackson, and Trey Lyles to the Kings. Bagley made his Pistons debut on February 14, a 103-94 loss to the Washington Wizards that saw 10 points, eight rebounds, and one assist.

Bagley re-signed with the Pistons on a three-year, $37.5 million deal on July 6, 2022.

Music career

Bagley is known for his work as a rapper and hip hop performer, more than basketball. In his free time, he is best known for writing his own raps and producing a variety of musical styles. His songs range from those that tell his tale to those that are made to relate to. On August 24, 2019, his album "Big Jreams" was announced. His album includes musicians including Iman Shumpert and Famous Los Angeles.
