Martijn Gerard Garritsen, also known as Martin Garrix, is a Dutch DJ and record producer from Amstelveen.

"Animals," "In the Name of Love," and "Scared to be Lonely." He was ranked number one on DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs list for three years (2016, 2017, and 2018). He has appeared at music festivals including Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra Music Festival, Tomorrowland, and Creamfields.

In 2014, he headlined the 1st edition of Ultra South Africa, marking his first big festival.

In the same year, he was the youngest DJ to headline the 2014 Ultra Music Festival at the age of 17.

He was a resident DJ at H Ibiza (2017 and 2018) in Spain's H Ibiza (2017 and 2018).

He formed Stmpd Rcrds, a brand that was founded in 2016, months after leaving Spinnin' Records and before signing with Sony Music.

Early life

Garrix was born in Amstelveen, the Netherlands, on May 14, 1996, and he is the son of Gerard and Karin Garritsen. Laura is his younger sister. He demonstrated an early aptitude for music at an early age and learned to play the guitar at the age of 8.

After seeing Dutch DJ Titto perform at the Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony in Athens this year, he expressed interest in becoming a DJ. He took particular inspiration from "Traffic," prompting him to buy the FL Studio, a professional digital audio workstation that allows him to begin recording.

He graduated from the Herman Brood Academy, a Utrecht production school, in 2013.

Martin Garrix Career

Career

Tisto, a legendary, humble, and mythic figure, found Garrix. He got his start with the songs "BFAM," a Dutch DJ Julian Jordan's project, and "Just Some Loops," a TV Noise match. Garrix reveals how he was discovered by the Dutch record label Spinnin' Records following the unveiling of his remix for Enrique Iglesias' "Tonight (I'm Loving You)" in the documentary "What We Did." He signed with Spinnin' Records in 2012 and released "Error 404," a project with Dutch DJ Jay Hardway. Garrix co-released "Torrent" with Dutch DJ Sidney Samson on Tisto's Musical Freedom label in 2013.

Garrix gained fame through his solo release, "Animals," which was released on June 16, 2013. Garrix was voted Europe's youngest person to reach number one on Beatport, and it made him a hit in several countries. The song appears on Dutch DJ Hardwell's album, 'Revealed Volume 4'. Garrix released a remix of "Project T" by Sander Van Doorn and Belgian-Greek DJ duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, which quickly debuted at number one on the Beatport charts. He appeared on DJ Magazine's top ten DJs list in 2013 as a newbie at number 40.

Garrix first EDM client was signed in November 2013 by Garrix, an American entertainment company Scooter Braun Projects. Since Garrix had already signed to Spinnin' Records, the contract was split-worldwide management with MusicAllStars Management, Spinnin' Records' sister company.

He launched "Wizard" with Jay Hardway in December 2013, which peaked at number 6 in Belgium and number 17 in the Netherlands. Garrix worked with Dutch duo Firebeatz on "Helicopter," which debuted at number one on the Beatport Top 100 charts for two weeks. Along with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, he created "Tremor" the Sensation 2014 anthem.

Garrix debuted several new and unreleased tracks at Ultra Music Festival 2014, including collaborations with American DJ Dillon Francis, Hardwell, and Dutch DJ Afrojack. On "Gold Skies," he collaborated with Dutch DJ Sander van Doorn and Canadian duo DVBBS in June. Aleesia, the singer's first vocal album, appeared on this album. For free download, he also released the song "Proxy." The majority of these songs were included on Garrix's debut album, Gold Skies, which was released on July 8, 2014.

Garrix continued to collaborate with mainstream DJs after the debut of his debut EP. Afrojack's "Virus (How About Now)" was the first of such collaborations, followed by Afrojack's "Turn Up the Speakers" collaboration, which Afrojack and Garrix premiered at Ultra Music Festival. He appeared on DJ Magazine's top 100 DJs list at number 4 in 2014.

In February 2015, he unveiled "Don't Look Down" fusing Grammy award-winning Usher. He also released two video versions for it, including "Towel Boy" and "Towel Girl." Garrix, James 'JHart' Abrahart, and Busbee wrote the song. It reached number three on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. Garrix said in an interview with British media company Digital Spy in early 2015 that Usher is a "humble" artist and a superb collaborator to whom he can give directly.

Garrix's last track of the year, "Bouncybob," his final track of the year, was released on December 31 for free, which he co-produced with Justin Mylo and Mesto.

Garrix left Spinnin' Records and MusicAllStars Management due to a dispute over his rights. The introduction of "Animals" as Garrix was 17 years old was a point of contention. He also pleaded guilty to his late-manager Eelko van Kooten. Garrix revealed in November 2015 that he would be creating his own record label. Before signing with Spinnin' Records, he went on to sue his boss, Eelko van Kooten, alleging that he was given "false and misleading information."

Garrix reportedly settled with Spinnin' Records in a pending court fight over his musician's ownership rights. He issued a statement announcing that he had withdrawn the summary court after his former record label sold the ownership rights of his music to him, and Spinnin' Records retained the exclusive license of all his songs released before August 2015. Garrix also confirmed that their other pending litigations would likely be the subject of further court hearings.

In the first quarter of 2016, Garrix's own record label Stmpd Rcrds debuted. He said he wanted it to be a 'platform' for artists of various genres when speaking to the label. In DJ Mag's annual Top DJs poll, Garrix was ranked the world's best DJ on October 19, 2016. "It's unreal to have won," he said to the media. I had no idea it at all. I've had an amazing year, with amazing shows and adoring followers – I'm so grateful for their help. I didn't even run a campaign; it just shows how dope the fanbase is."

Garrix would co-star, alongside British DJ Carl Cox, in an EDM-themed film titled "What We Started," according to the company. Bert Marcus, as a producer and music manager Pete Tong, produced the film. The documentary premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 15, 2017.
