Life and career
Higareda was born in Villahermosa, Mexico, and the niece of actress Martha Cervantes and artist and therapist Jose Luis Higareda and her sister. She began performing on stage at an early age, as well as dancing jazz, flamenco, tap, and folklore. At 14 years old, she migrated to Mexico City from her hometown Tabasco to pursue an acting career. "Doctor Juan" and "Mis Juan" were two of her debuts in theater.
She joined College several years earlier at the age of 15, studying El Tecnologico de Monterey. She'd attend college in the mornings, while attending acting school in the evenings and performing in theater on weekends. Her mother and sister's mother and sister moved to Mexico City a year later and attended acting class with her. In Disney Channel's Zapping Zone, she made her first television appearance as an anchor hostess.
Martha got to audition for Y Tu Mamá También, but because she was underage and due to the full on nudity in the film, she wasn't able to do the role. Cuaron encouraged her to continue acting. She shifted from Communications to Performing Arts shortly after.
