Early life and family

Mark Robert Michael Wahlberg was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on June 5, 1971. He is the youngest of nine children, including actor Robert and singer/actor Donnie. Alma Elaine (née Donnelly; 1942–2021) was a bank clerk and a nurse's aide, and his father, Donald Edmond Wahlberg Sr. (1930–2008), was a Korean Army veteran and a US Army veteran of the Korean War. Wahlberg's parents divorced in 1982; afterward, he divided his time between them.

Wahlberg's father is Swedish, as well as Irish through his paternal grandmother. His mother was of Irish, English, and French-Canadian origins. He is vaguely related to author Nathaniel Hawthorne on his mother's side of the family. Wahlberg was raised Catholic and attended Copley Square High School in Boston. He had developed a heroin use by age 13 and other drugs; he did not get his high school diploma until June 2013, at the age of 42.

Personal life

In 2001, Wahlberg began dating Rhea Durham. They had three children in the first seven years of their marriage and married on August 1, 2009 at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Beverly Hills, where they live. They had another child five months after their wedding in January 2010.

On September 11, 2001, Wahlberg had booked to fly on American Airlines Flight 11 but the day before, he had to cancel his reservation. "If I was on the plane with my children, it would not have crashed like it did," the pilot says in a 2012 interview. "There will be a lot of blood in that first-class cabin," he said, before me, "We're going to land somewhere safely, don't be concerned." Since family members of those killed on the flight protested outrage, he released an apology.

Wahlberg is a Roman Catholic and says it's "the most important part" of his life; he attends Mass twice a Sunday. Despite the Church's resistance, he openly supports same-sex marriage. In September 2015, he apologized to Pope Francis for the crude jokes he made in the film Ted, and he told Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago that he pleaded for God's forgiveness for playing a porn actor in Boogie Nights. The interview "was a joke taken too seriously," Andy Cohen said on Andy Cohen's radio show.

In May 2001, Wahlberg founded the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation with the intention of increasing and distributing funds to youth service and enrichment programs. Wahlberg is a member of the Good Shepherd Center for Homeless Women and Children.

Mark Wahlberg Career

Career

Wahlberg's younger brother, Donnie Wahlberg of the famed boy band New Kids on the Block, came to prominence. Mark, 13, was one of the group's founding members, as well as Donnie, but he resigned after a few months. Danny Wood, Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, and Joey McIntyre have all joined the club after Mark had left.

Wahlberg began recording with dancers/rappers Scott Ross (Scottie Gee), Hector Barros (Hector the Booty Inspector), Anthony Thomas (Ashley Ace), and Terry Yancey (DJ-T) as Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, gaining a hit with "Good Vibrations" from their debut album Music for the People in 1990. The record, which was created by brother Donnie, debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 and then became a platinum single. "Wildside" was the second single on Billboard's Hot Singles Sales chart and ranked 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, with a number five on the Billboard Hot Singles Sales chart and at number ten on Billboard's Hot Singles Sales chart and at number ten on the Billboard Hot 100. It was designated as a gold single. During their last tour, Marky Mark opened for the New Kids on the Block. Despite the band's popularity, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch's own video game, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch: Make My Video, was also a huge failure. You Gotta Believe, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch LP's second album, was not as popular as the first, with only one delivering only a minor hit single in the championship song.

Wahlberg praised Shabba Ranks, who had said that gay people should be crucified while performing on the British TV show The Word in December 1992. Calvin Klein was chastised by GLAAD for using him to advertise their products. Marky Mark, a self-titled autobiographical picture book with photographs taken by Lynn Goldsmith and mostly by him, was also published. He had migrated to Hamburg, where he was born under the brand of East West Records by Frank Peterson and Alex Christensen, in an attempt to revive his musical career.

On the album Life in the Streets, Wahlberg later collaborated with late reggae/ragga singer Prince Ital Joe. The project brought together rap vocals, electro-infused ragga, and "Europe dancefloor" music, along with Peterson and Christensen as producers. Many of these tracks were included on the film Renaissance Man, starring Wahlberg and Danny Devito.

In 1995, he released a single titled "No Mercy" in support of his friend Dariusz Michalczewski, whom he had befriended earlier in the 1990s. Michalczewski also appears in the album's music video. Prince Ital Joe and Wahlberg also appeared on Ultraphonic Records in 1995. The Remix Album was released on the radio, as well as Mark's solo album "No Mercy."

After his debut as a hit in Germany, Ital Joe started putting together One Love, as its producer and occasionally the lead singer. He's also started recording on a new studio album. "That's the Way I Like It" was his band's song. With producer Toni Cottura, Wahlberg returned to Hamburg in 1996 to record "Hey DJ" as a solo artist. In 1997, two more solo albums titled "Feel the Vibe" and "Best of My Love" were released.

He appeared in the Black Label Society's "Counterfeit God" music video in 2000 as a stand-in for the band's bassist.

Wahlberg first appeared in the "Good Vibrations" music video, and most prominently in a string of underwear ads for Calvin Klein (1992) shot by Herb Ritts, which were subsequently complemented by Calvin Klein television advertisements. Wahlberg was often seen in magazine and television ads exclusively or accompanied by model Kate Moss. For the Vanity Fair's annual Hall of Fame issue, Annie Leibovitz shot a famous session of Wahlberg in underwear. The Marky Mark Workout: Form... He made a workout video titled The Marky Mark Workout: From Workout: From... The Marky Mark Workout: The Marky Mark Workout: From... Fitness (ISBN 1-55510-910)): (ISBN 1-55510-910-1).

Wahlberg began as a brand ambassador for Marked, a GNC-owned line of sports nutrition supplements.

Wahlberg will be a spokesperson and create original content for the smartphone network division, according to AT&T in March 2017. According to reports, Wahlberg's contract cost him more than $100,000.

Wahlberg made his acting debut in the 1993 film The Substitute. He deleted the word "Marky Mark" after this appearance. With the Danny DeVito film Renaissance Man, his big screen debut came next year. Since appearing alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Basketball Diaries (1995), a film adaptation of Jim Carroll's "The Basketball Diaries (1995), he attracted the attention of critics, portraying Mickey Mouse. Fear (1996), James Foley's thriller film Fear was his first starring role.

After films including Boogie Nights, Three Kings, The Perfect Storm, and Four Brothers, he received raves. Wahlberg appeared in remakes of 1960s films including Planet of the Apes, The Truth About Charlie (a remake of the 1963 film Charade), and The Italian Job in the early 2000s. In the 2004 The Village Voice Critics Survey, his participation in I Heart Huckabees was rated as the year's highest supporting performance. In Ocean's Eleven, Wahlberg was originally portrayed as Linus Caldwell, but Matt Damon took the role instead. In The Departed, the two children spent time together. Wahlberg was also considered for a role in the film Brokeback Mountain. Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist were supposed to star Wahlberg and Joaquin Phoenix (with whom he appeared in the 2000 film The Yards) as Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist, respectively, but the two actors were dissatisfied with the film's sex scenes. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal were eventually praised for Academy Awards for their performances, and both of them were nominated for Academy Awards for their roles.

In Invincible, a football drama based on Bartender Vince Papale's true story, Wahlberg appeared in Invincible, an American football drama. He was also the executive producer of the HBO series Entourage (2004–2011), which was loosely based on his Hollywood experiences. He appeared in Sean Dignam, an uncomfortable, foul-mouthed Massachusetts State Police sergeant in Martin Scorsese's critically acclaimed thriller, The Departed, earning him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture, as well as a National Society of Film Critics Best Supporting Actor award. Wahlberg and co-star Leonardo DiCaprio were reunited.

Despite his felony conviction, which expressly bans him from owning weapons, Wahlberg is gearing up for his position in Shooter by attending long-range shooting instruction at Front Sight Firearms Training Institute near Pahrump, Nevada. On his second day, he was able to hit a target at 1,100 yards, a feat that normally takes weeks to accomplish. In a number of interviews, he had indicated that he would not retire at the age of 40 to concentrate on parenthood and professional golf. However, he said in early 2007 that the former was no longer the option because "his golf game is horrible." In Peter Jackson's "The Lovely Bones" a film adaptation of the Alice Sebold book of the same name, he played Jack Salmon, the father of Susie's protagonist. In 2007, he appeared in We Own the Night, a film about a family of police officers in New York City.

Eliot Moore appeared in M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening, which premiered in theaters on June 13, 2008. He appeared in Max Payne, based on the same computer game of the same name, in the same year. When promoting Max Payne, Wahlberg became embroiled in a feud with Andy Samberg of The Lonely Island. In a Saturday Night Live sketch titled "Mark Wahlberg Talks to Animals," Samberg did an impression of Wahlberg. Wahlberg defameled the original one in a parody of Samberg's portrayal of Wahlberg and Samberg's own threats to him.

Wahlberg appeared in Seth MacFarlane's hit comedy Ted in 2012, and in its 2015 sequel, the actor appeared in the same role. Wahlberg starred as Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell in Lone Survivor (2013), based on Luttrell's 2007 book of the same name. Wahlberg's role was highly lauded, with commercial success and mainly favorable feedback. Wahlberg appeared in the remake of The Gambler, a 1974 James Caan film that was loosely influenced by the Dostoyevsky novella. Wahlberg, the show's producer, was fired after its premiere at 311,000 viewers in 2014. While co-starring in one episode of Wahlburgers, he executive produced one episode. He starred opposite Will Ferrell in the comedy Daddy's Home in 2015. He appeared in two Peter Berg films, Deepwater Horizon, a film about the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and Patriots Day, a film about the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing.

In 2017, Wahlberg ranked No. 1 on the world's highest-paid actors. Michelle Williams' reshoots of All the Money in the World caused a gender pay gap in 2018, when his co-star Michelle Williams had less than $1,000 for the same reshoots. Wahlberg contributed to the Time's Up campaign, a movement against sexual harassment that was co-founded by Williams.

Walhberg produced and starred in Mile 22 (2018), as well as in Netflix's Spenser Confidential (2020) and the animated film Scoob! (2020), which was his first voice acting debut. Wahlberg appeared in the Uncharted film in 2022, as Victor Sullivan, having been cast to play Nathan Drake years before.

Wahlberg, as well as his brothers Donnie and Paul, are co-owners of Wahlburgers. Mark's plan was to turn Paul's restaurant in Hingham, Massachusetts, into a full-fledged chain, with a reality show to promote it.

Wahlberg bought an equity stake in the Barbados Tridents cricket team in July 2013. Wahlberg was introduced to the game by his colleague Ajmal Khan, the club's chairman and Caribbean Premier League founder, who also played in the tournament. "I am a huge cricket fan now," Wahlberg said following the announcement. I'm excited to be a part of the Limacol Caribbean Premier League because I know cricket is important in the Caribbean and a significant part of the region's history. Sports and entertainment go together, and the LCPL will have a huge audience around the world.

Wahlberg recruited actor Sean Combs and billionaire Ronald Burkle to join him in investing in Aquahydrate, according to bottled water company Wahlberg. The three men share a majority stake in the company together. Wahlberg, joined by former GNC executive Tom Dowd, co-founded Performance Inspired, a sports nutrition firm that was founded in 2016. Wahlberg, one of the first investors to participate in a $6 million fundraising round for StockX, a sneaker resale market, in February 2017. Wahlberg acquired a stake in the F45 fitness brand in March 2019.

Wahlberg and his business partner, Jay Feldman, announced the purchase of Bobby Layman Chevrolet in Columbus, Ohio, on July 20, 2018. Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet was renamed by the dealership's name. Haydocy Buick-GMC, right across the street from Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet, had filed paperwork with Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose to rename it Mark Wahlberg Buick-GMC, contributing to the dealership's success in March 2020; Feldman later announced that he and Wahlberg were buying their second General Motors dealership in the city. The agreement was signed on June 29, 2020, and Haydocy's Airstream and RV dealerships were also included in the agreement, which was located next door to the car dealership's former Oldsmobile showroom. Wahlberg and Feldman announced shortly afterward that they were buying Jack Maxton Chevrolet in Worthington, Ohio, their fourth Columbus-area dealership, with plans to rename it Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet of Worthington. In July 2021, Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet of Avon was introduced in Avon, Ohio; unlike the other dealerships, the Avon location is located in Greater Cleveland, commemorating Wahlberg and Feldman's arrival in Northeast Ohio.

Wahlberg and his production partner/manager Stephen Levinson launched Ballers Report, an online magazine (and a spin-off of their HBO show Ballers) in 2021 that features inspiring business, entertainment, and sports news, videos, and podcasts.

In 2021, he invested in Flecha Azul, the Tequila brand.
