He tied Johnny Gaudreau to lead all NHL rookies in scoring during the 2014–15 season with 64 points and received a nomination for the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's top rookie. During the 2018–19 NHL season, he was traded to Vegas, and subsequently signed a long-term contract with the team.

Mark Stone Career

Playing career

Stone began his junior career with the Manitoba Wheat Kings of the Manitoba Midget Hockey League in 2008–09, where he played in the 2008 Telus Cup and was the top scorer in the tournament. He played 39 points (17 goals and 22 assists) in 56 games, tying for 12th in WHL rookie scoring. He had four points (one goal and three assists) over 12 games during the 2009 playoffs. Stone was ranked in the top 50 on several major scouting lists for the forthcoming 2010 NHL Entry Draft, and the following season began with him. He was limited to 28 points (11 goals and 17 assists) over 39 games, dropping him to 28 points (11 goals and 17 assists), limiting his final draft ranking among scouts. He appeared in all of the Wheat Kings' 15 games during the playoffs, scoring a goal and three assists. Despite being disqualified in the WHL Conference Finals, the Wheat Kings made the trip to the 2010 Memorial Cup by virtue of being chosen as the host team at the start of the year. Stone, who was competing in the semi-finals against the Calgary Hitmen, competed with his older brother, Michael. The Wheat Kings advanced to the Memorial Cup Final after defeating the Windsor Spitfires; Stone had no points in five tournament games. He was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in the sixth round, 178th overall, during the off-season. Stone was discovered as a power forward with weak skating abilities.

Stone appeared in his first NHL training camp in September 2010 and was then back to junior for the upcoming season. Stone finished with 106 points (37 goals and 69 assists) in his third WHL season, his highest position in his team and third in WHL scoring. At the end of the year, his participation earned him a spot on the WHL First All-Star Team. In the first round, Stone finished ten points over six games during the post-season. He was signed to a three-year, entry-level deal before being sent back to the Wheat Kings for the 2011–12 season, returning to the Senators' training camp for the second year. Stone was named Brandon's new team captain back in junior, succeeding Shayne Wiebe, who had turned professional. Cory Clouston, the Senators' head coach from Stone's first training camp, had been suspended and became the Wheat Kings' new coach. Stone was praised for his intelligence and for his increased core strength from last year. In the 2011 Subway Super Series, he was selected to compete for Team WHL against the Russian under-20 select squad. In one of the games on November 17, 2011, he scored a goal and an assist, earning the title of the player of the game. Stone was one of 16 candidates for the 54th annual H. L. Crawford Memorial Award for sports achievement in southwestern Manitoba in December 2011.

Stone finished his junior career after being named the winner of the Brad Hornung Trophy as the WHL's most sportsmanlike player and was named a member of the Eastern Conference First Team All-Star in 2011-2012.

Stone was rumored to join the Ottawa Senators on April 20, 2012, and he will make his NHL debut for the Senators against the New York Rangers. Stone did indeed participate in the winning goal scored by Jason Spezza, who had an assist. Stone made his NHL regular season debut against the Toronto Maple Leafs on March 6, 2013. He scored his first NHL goal against the Montreal Canadiens' Carey Price on January 4, 2014. Stone split in 2013-14 between Ottawa and their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, scoring 4 goals and 8 points in 19 NHL games.

Stone appeared on the Senators' opening night line-up for the 2014--15 season, and he had a blast on the all-rookie "Kid Line" with Mike Hoffman and Curtis Lazar. Following Stone's offensive success, the Senators revealed on November 7, 2014 that the team will continue with the NHL team for the remainder of the season. Stone became one of Ottawa's top-six forwards, scoring 16 goals and 43 points in his first 62 games and earning recognition as the NHL's best rookie, as the season progressed. Since the 2015 all-star break, he led all NHL players in scoring. Stone finished the 2014–15 season tied for the rookie scoring lead with the Calgary Flames' Johnny Gaudreau (64 goals, 38 assists) in 80 games, as well as leading the league in takeaways (98). However, Stone suffered a fractured wrist after a blow by Montreal player P. K. Subban on April 15. As a result, Subban was given a five-minute major and game offence. Despite the injury, Stone appeared in all of the Senators' post-season games against the Canadiens, scoring four assists in six games, but the Senators ultimately lost the series.

Stone was nominated for the Calder Memorial Trophy on April 23, 2015, but he finished second in voting to Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad. Stone signed a three-year contract extension with the Senators, worth an average annual value of $3.5 million, with former Senators general manager Bryan Murray naming Stone "one of [the team's] top players, if not one of the best."

Stone appeared in the majority of the Senators' games during the 2015–16 season, scoring 61 points in 75 games. For the second season in a row, he was one of the best-performing players since the All-Star Game break. Dustin Byfuglien delivered a brutal bodycheck to Stone on March 30 against the Winnipeg Jets, requiring Stone to abandon the ice immediately for concussion testing. Although Stone returned to the ice later this season, he will not participate in the remaining games of the season.

Stone would score 54 points in 71 games during the 2016–17 season, leading the NHL in takeaways for the third straight season, defeating second-placed Nick Schmaltz by 13.

Despite missing much of the 2017-18 season due to injuries, Stone had a fruitful year with 62 points in 58 games. Stone, on the other hand, was unable to come to terms with the Senators on a new deal, triggering an arbitration that would make him an unrestricted free agent the following offseason.

Stone was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights alongside Tobias Lindberg in return for Erik Brannstrom, Oscar Lindberg, and a 2020 second-round pick at the 2019 trade deadline, despite continuing rumors and after he did not come to terms on a contract extension with the Senators. He officially signed an eight-year, $76 million contract extension (included $48 million in signing bonuses) to remain in Vegas on March 8, 2019. Stone took home 122 of the league's top takeaways on the season. Stone, alongside Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues' Ryan O'Reilly, was a finalist for the Frank J. Selke Trophy in the regular season on April 17, 2019.

Stone defeated the Golden Knights 6–3 in game three of the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs on April 14, 2019, his first hat-trick. Stone became the first Golden Knight player to score a hat-trick in the playoffs by doing so.

In seven games of the aforementioned playoffs, the Golden Knights were eliminated by the Sharks, with Stone total points from six goals and six assists.

Stone was voted the first captain of the Vegas Golden Knights on January 13, 2021.

Karlson, 30, celebrated the Vegas Golden Knights' Stanley Cup series victory in a strange fashion as he and his teammates were announced to the audience outside T-Mobile Arena on Saturday. During team captain Mark Stone's open air address, the center compelled supporters to yell, 'Go, Knights Go!' while taking off his shirt and throwing it into the crowd. On stage, Karlsson, who was drafted by the Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft, proceeded to welcome Jonathan Marchessault, this year's MVP at the Stanley Cup Finals, Jonathan Marchessault.

Stanley Cup: The Golden Knights defeated the Panthers in the Stanley Cup, fulfilling the owner's pledge to win within six years

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 14, 2023
The fact that the Vegas Golden Knights beat the Florida Panthers 9-3 to win their first Stanley Cup title in just five games is a remarkable feat in itself. However, the fact that the new expansion team completed just six seasons after its inception - something owner Bill Foley actually predicted in 2016 is well beyond belief. Well, six years after Foley had boasted a championship to his new followers, the Golden Knights lifted the Cup in Las Vegas on Tuesday night. Mark Stone of the right dazzled with a hat trick, while center Jack Eichel poured three others on, but the city's biggest celebrity may have been the city itself. Sin City is now at the forefront of the sport world, less than a year after the Las Vegas Aces captured their first WNBA title. Las Vegas is also known to be attracting Major League Baseball's Oakland Athletics and a potential NBA expansion franchise, in addition to the NFL's Raiders and a recent, upcoming Formula One race.
