Career
Dolan began as a stand-up comedian in 2000, winning the So You Think You're Funny competition on Channel 4 in his first year of competition. He has performed 11 runs at the Edinburgh Fringe and has performed around the world as a live comedian. He received an award at the 2018 Leicester Mercury Comedy Festival for his best joke of the festival, and later performed online during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dolan's career in radio began as a radio journalist, working for the female-only Viva Radio, 963 Freedom, and then talkSPORT. He was also the producer of the Nick Ferrari and David Banks-fronted Big Boys' Breakfast, to which he also contributed comedy sketches.
Dolan returned to radio in 2017, hosting a breakfast show on Fubar Radio, a London-based internet radio station.
Dolan also appeared on talkRADIO from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Saturday nights 10pm to 10 p.m., and Sundays 8 p. to 10 p.m. to 10.10 p.m. In July 2021, he left the station.
During a talkRADIO interview, Dolan cut up a face mask, saying the masks are "wretched, godawful, damned, blinking, painful, scientifically poor, and useless" in September 2020, at a time in the COVID-19 pandemic period, when wearing face masks was common in shops and on public transport in the United Kingdom. Jamie East, Dolan's fellow talkRADIO host, left the station after Dolan went unpunished by station bosses. Piers Morgan and doctor Hilary Jones chastised his behavior on Good Morning Britain as being "cost lives." Dolan said next month that he followed all federal guidelines on mask wearing, but that the science supporting them was "flaky."
Dolan first came to the public's notice in 2002 after describing and performing in a Comedy Lab called 'The Richard Taylor Interviews.'
Dolan was the host of Balls of Steel, Channel 4's most popular show from 2005 to 2008, for which he was named Best Presenter at the NRTA Awards. He was also the host of "The World's Most Extraordinary People" on television, including the world's tallest woman, the youngest man, and the richest teenager. The film brought out three series and twelve one-hour films, as well as Harper Collins' publication The World's Most Extraordinary People and Me.
Dolan appeared on More4 in 2006 as the host of The Last Word, a nightly topical discussion show. He has appeared on television shows for E4, including its debut comedy series Show Me The Funny, and he also appeared on television as the host of a new series for Five named Urban Legends. Dolan was the host of Sky Movies' weekly movie news show 35mm and Channel 4's The Mad Bad Ad Show for five years.
Dolan performed on "Destiny's Dad" in February 2013 as a participant of "Destiny's Dad" alongside stand-up comedians Hal Cruttenden and Shaun Keaveny.
Dolan co-hosted If Katie Hopkins Ruled the World in 2015 with British reality TV presenter Katie Hopkins.
In 2016, he won the Celebrity Come Dine With Me Christmas Special, which included a Dickensian-themed meal of pea soup, three bird roast, and plum duff as dessert. Along Bradley Wiggins, Robbie Fowler, and Jason Robinson, he appeared in the fourth and final series of Channel 4 wintersports entertainment show The Jump.
