After turning off the heating in winter due to energy cost concerns, the pensioner died of hypothermia

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 4, 2023
An elderly pensioner died of hypothermia after turning the heating off in her house over winter because she was worried about spiralling energy prices, according to an inquest. Barbara Bolton, a retired pharmacy employee, was discovered by her grandson in her terraced home's freezing kitchen before the 87-year-old died in a hospital four weeks later. Ms Joanne Kearsley, a senior coroner, listened to family stories about how they had told her 'not to worry' about her electricity bills before Christmas. They'd even provided her with cell heaters so she'd remain comfortable as the cold weather crept in last year.
