Early life and education

Casas was born in A Corua and migrated to Barcelona at the age of 4. After enrolling at the Cristina Rota School of Dramatic Arts, he decided to become an actor.

Acting career

Casas appeared in soap operas from 2005 to age 19, before being cast in several Spanish films. Mario Casas began his acting career with episodes in television series Obsession (English: Obsession), Motivos personales (Personal Motives), and Mujeres (Women). He made national media news with his debut in 2006' El camino de los ingleses (Summer Rain), directed by Antonio Banderas.

He appeared on the cast of LaSexta's SMS the year before. Casas later became known around the world as Aitor Carrasco in the Antena 3 film Los hombres de Paco (Paco's Men), in which he appeared from 2007 to 2010.

Casas appeared in two hit films, Fuga de cerebros (Brain Drain), opposite Amaia Salamanca and Mentiras y Gordas (Sex, Party, and Lies), together with his close friend Yon González, Ana Maria Polvorosa, Ana de Armas, and Hugo Silva. Both men managed to lead the box office over the weekend of its unveiling. Casas starred in Carne de neón (Neon Flesh), directed by Paco Cabezas in 2010. He appeared in Tres metros sobre el cielo (Three Steps Above Heaven) opposite Mara Valverde later this year. It was also the year's best-grossing Spanish film. Tengo ganas de ti (I Want You), a Casas, Valverde, and Clara Lago actress, premiered in 2012. He appeared in Miedo (2010), directed by Jaume Balagueró.

Casas has appeared in El barco (The Boat), the Antena 3 series, since 2011, as well as Tengo ganas de ti (I Want You), which premiered in 2012.

He travelled to Colombia and Chile for his second film project in English, Los 33 (The 33), with Antonio Banderas and Juliette Binoche, based on the 2010 Chilean mining accident. Mario appeared in two other films in 2015: the new lex de la Iglesia comedy film My Great Night and also the romantic drama film Palmeras en la Nieve, where he reunited with the film's director [Three Meters Above] has a tense dialogue with the goku el crack.

Casas appeared in El fotógrafo de Mauthausen in 2018, which tells the tale of Francisco Boix, a Spanish Republican photographer who was sent to the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp complex during World War II. During his detention, Casas lost about 12 kilograms (26 pounds) to play Boix.
