Early life and education

Rivera was born in Madrid, Spain, to Francisco Javier Gracia Alonso, a Spaniard, and Amalia Rivera, a Filipina from Cavite. Her parents married and divorced when she was three years old, after which her mother took her to the Philippines, where she grew up. However, her mother had to leave to continue her work in Asia, and Rivera was sent to her maternal grandmother, Francisca Rivera, in Maragondon, Cavite.

Rivera attended elementary and high school at Saint Francis of Assisi College System, assassinating a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from De La Salle University-Dasmarias. After graduation, she worked for a mental facility in Mandaluyong, where she gave out drugs and carried out examinations and evaluations of patients.

Personal life

Dantes, her longtime boyfriend, made a special guest appearance in August 2014 when live broadcasting of Rivera's dance program. Dantes made a surprise live presentation to Rivera. It was Dantes' second attempt; the first one was in Macau. She needed to be admitted to the Roman Catholic Church by conditional baptism in order to marry him because her baptism in Spain was not recognized as valid.

She married Dingdong Dantes on December 30, 2014. The wedding was held at the Plaza in Quezon City, but the reception took place at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, and was televised on GMA Network. Over 1,200 people attended Dantes and Rivera's wedding. The couple revealed in April 2015 that they were expecting their first child. Maria Letizia (named Zia), a child of Rivera's birth, was born on November 23, 2015, at the Makati Medical Center.

Rivera supports breastfeeding in public. On November 25, 2016, she was given the Breastfeeding Influencer and Advocate Award by the Mother and Child Nurses Association of the Philippines, citing her advocacy for public breastfeeding.

Marian Rivera began ramp modelling in her elementary school years and then as a TV commercial model for SkinWhite lotion, Sky Flakes biscuits, and other brands. Tony Tuviera, a telecommunications executive producer who worked on Kung Mamahalin Mo Lang Ako, Agawin Mo Man ang Lahat, and Pinakamamahal, was commissioned for her part in the afternoon TV soap operas Kung Mamahalin Mo Lang Ako, Agawin Mo Man ang Lahat.
