Marcel Dassault Life

Marcel Dassault (born Marcel Bloch; 1892-2004) was a French industrialist who worked in aircraft manufacturing.

Early life and education

He was born in Paris on January 23rd, 1892, as the youngest of Adolphe Bloch, a physician, and his wife Noémie Allatini. His parents were Jewish.

He was educated at Lycée Condorcet in Paris. He graduated from the Breguet School and Supaéro, after studies in electrical engineering. Bloch was classmates with Mikhail Gurevich, a Russian student who would later be instrumental in the production of the MiG aircraft line at the former school.

Personal life

Bloch married Madeleine Minckes, the daughter of a wealthy Jewish family of furniture dealers, in 1919. Claude and Serge, their two sons, were born. In 1950, after changing his name to Dassault (nom de guerre from his brother General Paul Bloch's Chardasso and derives from char d'assaut for tank in French), he converted to the Roman Catholic Church.

Dassault acquired the Hôtel Marcel Dassault, which dates back to 1844 at nos, in July 1952. The Sabatier d'Espeyran family has a 7 and 9 rond-point des Champs-Élysées (at the corner of the avenue des Champs-Élysées and avenue Montaigne). There are no buildings on the property at all. The auction house Artcurial has been using 7 since 2002, which has undergone further changes under architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte's direction. No. No. 7 has been sold, but not many have. The Groupe Industriel Marcel Dassault's 9 is also used by the company.

Dassault was inducted into the International Air & Space Hall of Fame in 1973.

Marcel Dassault Career

Career

Bloch worked at the French Aeronautics Research Laboratory in Chalais-Meudon during World War II and invented a model of aircraft propeller that was later used by the French army in the war. He founded the Société d'Études Aéronautiques in 1916, co-produced Henry Potez and Louis Coroller, to produce the SEA series of fighters.

Bloch founded Société des Avions Marcel Bloch, which manufactured its first aircraft in 1930. Bloch and Henry Potez, 1935, and Bloch and Henry Potez reached an agreement to purchase Société Aérienne Bordelaise (SAB). Société Nationale de Constructions Aéronautiques du Sud Ouest, 1936, the company was nationalized as the Société Nationale de Constructions Aéronautiques du Sud Ouest (SNCASO). Bloch has agreed to be the delegated administrator of the Minister of Air.

France's aviation industry was virtually disbanded during World War II, other than mandatory manufacturing, assembly, and servicing of German designs. Bloch refused to collaborate with the German occupiers at Bordeaux-Aéronautique in October 1940 and was detained by the Vichy government in Bordeaux.

The Nazis deported Bloch to the Buchenwald concentration camp in 1944 as punishment for refusing to cooperate with their regime. He was tortured, beaten, and held in solitary confinement. In the meanwhile, his wife was internded near Paris. Bloch was detained in Buchenwald until it was liberated on April 11, 1945. He was crippled to the point that he could barely walk by the time he returned to Paris. His doctors urged him to end his affairs because they did not expect him to recover his health.

He went from Bloch to Bloch-Dassault during the war and then Dassault in 1949, where he went from Bloch to Bloch-Dassault. This name was used by his brother, General Darius Bloch, as he served in the French resistance, and comes from char d'assault, French for "tank." Dassault acquired Breguet in 1971, establishing Avions Marcel Dassault-Breguet Aviation (AMD-BA).
