Marc Janko Life

Marc Janko (born 25 June 1983) is a former Austrian footballer who appeared as a striker for the Austrian national team. Janko was a good goal-scorer during his time with Austrian Bundesliga club Red Bull Salzburg, where he scored 75 league goals in 108 games, including 39 goals in 35 games in the 2009–2010 season.

Eva Janko, who received a bronze medal in the women's Javelin competition at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, is his uncle.

Club career

Janko began his work at Admira Wacker in Mödling, Lower Austria. He joined Red Bull Salzburg after a string of fruitful years. He was one of the team's most valuable players, and he scored 11 goals in ten matches from 2004 to 2005.

In the first two games, Janko scored five goals in the 2008–09 season. He became Salzburg's all-time team leader for goals scored in one season on November 16, 2008. He scored 25 goals in less than half of a season, beating former record holder Oliver Bierhoff, who scored 23 goals during the 1990–91 season. With a four-goal win over league rival Altach, Janko extended his scoring streak. He defeated Toni Polster as the all-time scoring champion by scoring 30 goals in 20 matches on December 6, 2008.

After coming on as a second-half substitute against SCR Altach in a 4–3 victory, Janko scored five hat tricks in the league this season, including a four-goal effort. In 34 games, he scored 39 goals (plus 9 assists) in 34 games as Red Bull Salzburg defeated the league.

He was the topscorer in all European leagues during the year thanks to his 39 goals in the 2008–2009 season. Several English Premier League clubs and Celtic were intrigued by his exploits. However, he signed a new Red Bull deal on January 30th, which will keep him in Salzburg until June 2013.

Despite rumors and rumors that Janko would join a different club, the Red Bulls remained with the Red Bulls. Janko scored 12 goals in 21 games this season, putting him in second place in the Bundesliga behind teammate Roman Wallner. His best results against FC Kärnten on October 4th were a four-goal effort, and a pair of goals were scored against Josko Ried on February 13.

Janko was also a key member of the Salzburg team that had great success in its pool play in the UEFA Europa League. In a 3–2 loss in the first tie of the round of 32, he had a good show against Standard Liège on February 19, 2010, scoring his team's two goals.

Janko signed a four-year deal with Dutch club Twente on June 21, 2010 and was given the number 21 shirt, which had previously been worn by fellow Austrian Marko Arnautovi. Janko's signature was paid by Twente for €7 million.

In a 3–0 win over Vitesse in the third match of the Evolve season, Janko scored his first goal for his new club on August 21, 2010, his team's first goal. Twente defeated Utrecht 4–0 in the club's next Eredivise match. Janko scored a brace and notched an assist.

In a 5–0 victory over Twente on January 19, 2011, Janko scored four goals for Twente, while also contributing to Luuk de Jong's goal. Twente defeated Groningen on January 23. He scored both goals on January 23nd. Janko scored the winning goal of the 2011 KNVB Cup final against Ajax in the 117th minute on May 8th, a 3–2 win.

Twente defeated reigning Ejax 2–1 to lift the trophy in the 2011 Johan Cruyff Shield. Janko scored from the penalty spot. Twente defeated NAC Breda in the first match of the 2011–12 Equestrian season, with Janko scoring the match's only goal. Janko scored twice on 28 August, scoring Twente's third and fifth goals as they defeated Heerenveen 5-1. He scored twice on 29 September to lead Twente to their first victory in the UEFA Europa League, a convincing 4–1 victory over Wisa Kraków.

Twente beat RKC Waalwijk 4–0 in an Economies match on October 15th, with Janko scoring a hat-trick. Twente defeated Fulham 1–0 on December 1st, winning first place in Group K of the UEFA Europa League group stage.

It was revealed on January 30, 2012, that Janko would sign for Porto. On January 31, Janko officially announced himself as a Porto player and was given the number 29 shirt, the first sign of a €3 million transfer and signing a new one until June 2015. Porto defeated Vitória de Setbal 2–0 on Friday, for his first goal for the Taça de Portugal. He scored his first goal for the Taça de Portugal on February 5th.

Janko said he signed for Turkish club Trabzonspor for a €2.4 million transfer fee on August 28, 2012 after only half a year at Porto. In the second half of a 0–1 loss to Gaziantepspor, he made his debut for the club five days later, replacing Paulo Henrique. In Trabzonspor's 2–1 victory over Orduspor, Janko scored his first goal on November 19th, the club's first goal.

In a 2–0 victory over Legia Warsaw in the UEFA Europa League group stage, Janko scored his first goal of the 2013-14 season on October 24, 2013, scoring Trabzonspor's goal. He scored against Balkesirspor in the fourth round of the Turkish Cup on December 4th, but the reason was not sufficient as Trabzonspor suffered to a 1–3 loss. He scored his second game in Turkey during his stay in Turkey on February 23, 2014, defeating Kayserispor as the match champion. Janko was released from his deal at the end of the season, allowing the forward to join a new club on a free transfer.

Janko was announced on July 31, 2014 as Sydney FC's new marquee signing for the 2014-15 A-League season, implying that his wages were not allowed to be paid outside of the league's salary ceiling. In a 2–0 victory over Brisbane Roar on August 30, he scored his first goal for Sydney in the inaugural Townsville Football Cup's final. He scored his first A-League goal against Brisbane Roar in a 2–0 victory on October 24th. His 35-yard shot crashed into the top left corner, giving Sydney a 1–0 lead. Since being turned down the opportunity to represent the Austrian national team against Brazil, Janko scored his next two goals in the form of a brace against Melbourne City. In Sydney's 5–1 victory over the Central Coast Mariners on January 24, 2015. He scored two more goals in the final round.

Following a string of six goals in four matches during the month, Janko was named Professional Footballer of the Month for February. In Sydney's 5–4 victory over Brisbane Roar on matchday 21 under rather chilly weather, Janko scored his first hat-trick for the team. With 16 goals, Alessandro Del Piero made the 2012–13 A-League season with 14 goals, he also became Sydney's highest season goalscorer with 16 goals (previously held by Alessandro Del Piero). In addition, Janko became the first player to score in seven consecutive matches, beating former Brisbane Roar player Besart Berisha's record of six.

On May 26, 2015, it was announced that Janko would not be returning to Sydney due to difficulties with playing in league matches and international service.

On a free transfer, Janko joined Schweizer side Basel on a one-year contract. In the away match against Grasshopper on July 25, he made his Basel debut against Grasshopper on July 25, 2015. He also scored his first goal for Basel in the match, which ended 3–2 for his team. Janko won the Swiss Super League championship in 2015, 16, and 2016–17 Super League seasons, under new coach Urs Fischer. It was Basel's eighth straight title and 20th overall, and fifth overall.

On June 6, 2017, Janko agreed to a two-year deal with Czech club Sparta Prague.

On Sunday, Janko announced that he had signed a deal with Swiss club FC Lugano.

International career

In a friendly match against Croatia in May 2006, Janko made his debut for Austria, earning his second cap against Liechtenstein in October. He scored one of Austria's two goals against Lithuania on October 10, 2009, scoring one of Austria's two goals against Lithuania. He scored Austria's lone goal against France four days later.

He was a member of the national team of the United Kingdom at the 2016 Euro Cup.
