Mana Ashida (born 23 June 2004) is a Japanese children actor, tarento, and singer.

Ashida's first appearance in Asahi Broadcasting Corporation's ABC Short Movie 2, but she came to fame after appearing in the television drama Mother.

When she appeared in Sayonara Bokutachi no Youchien, she became the youngest leading actress in Japanese drama history.

She made her debut in the serial drama Marumo no Okite in the spring of 2011.

She has also appeared in Japanese films such as Confessions and Usagi Drop. "Maru Maru Mori Mori Mori," the 2011 hit song for the television drama Marumo no Okite, Ashida and her co-actor Fuku Suzuki performed.

Personal life

Ashida was born in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, on June 23rd, 2004 and is the only child. Mana-chan is a mix of her given name and the Japanese honorific used when speaking to children (-chan). Ashida confessed that she is a fan of the K-pop group Kara. She loves riding unicycles and reads over 60 books per month.

After passing the entrance exam, Ashida was accepted into Keio Junior High School, one of the best-ranked Junior High schools in the Greater Tokyo Area, in April 2017.

Ashida made her debut in Asahi Broadcasting Corporation's ABC Short Movie 2. In 2009, Bokenmama was introduced to the world. Hanbin no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora's first film was the live-action film version in 2010. Manami Moriguchi appeared in the film Confessions the year before. She appeared in the film Ghost: In Your Arms Again, a Japanese version of the 1990 film Ghost, as well as the 1990 film Ghost. She was one of the winners of the "Rookie of the Year" award at the 34th Japan Academy Awards for her role in this film.

Ashida did voice-over roles for foreign films released in Japan in addition to acting. In the Japanese version of Despicable Me, Agnes appeared, and she was the voice of the young Fang Deng in the Japanese release of Aftershock.

Ashida rose to fame after appearing in the award-winning television drama Mother as Reina Michiki, a young child who was abused by her mother. Ashida began co-hosting Meringue no Kimochi with the show's long-time hosts, Masami Hisamoto and Asako Ito in October 2011. This made her the youngest regular host of a talk or variety show.

Ashida's debut with Universal Music on September 15, 2011 had been announced. In October 2011, she first performed her first single with them, and her debut album in late 2011. By participating in the 62nd edition of the annual Khatu Uta Gassen singing competition, Ashida and Suzuki became the youngest participants.

In the first role in a 2012 film, Ashida portrayed Annie's female lead character. Kira Deco's theme song was performed live on the anime show Jewels. The song, "Zutto Tomodachi," was also used in the 2012 anime film Jewelpet the Princess. Ashida also appeared in the film as Princess Mana. On May 16, 2012, the album was released as a single and debuted at number 17 on the Oricon Weekly Singles Charts.

In Fuji Television's summer drama series Beautiful Rain, Ashida appeared as Miu Kinoshita, the daughter of a single father who suffered from juvenile Alzheimer's disease. "Ame ni Negai o" was also recorded as the company's theme song. Ame ni Negai o, written by singer Yumi Matsutoya, was the first drama theme song performed solo. On August 1, 2012, a single was released in Japan.

She performed her first solo concert at Tokyo's Curian Shinagawa General Citizen Hall on December 27, 2012.

In the 2013 film Pacific Rim, Ashida made her Hollywood debut portraying young Mako Mori. She auditioned for the role in October 2011, when she reportedly impressed the judges with her rich expressiveness. She travelled to Toronto to film the film, where she also met Guillermo del Toro. According to Ashida's inability to say his surname, Del Toro allegedly permitted Ashida to call him "Totoro-san."

On January 2, 2013, Ashida appeared in a Celebrity Kids Edition of the Japanese version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. She won the top prize, 1,000,000, and became the youngest top prize winner in the Millionaire franchise.
