Malorie Blackman Life

Malorie Blackman (born 8 February 1962) is a British writer who served as the Children's Laureate from 2013 to 2015.

She writes mainly for children and young adults.

She has used science fiction to investigate socioeconomic and ethical questions.

Her critically and widely acclaimed Noughts and Crosses collection explores bigotry in the setting of a fictional dystopia.

Early life

Malorie Blackman was born in Clapham, London, and grew up in Bromley, one of five siblings. Her parents, who were both from Barbados, had to come to Britain as part of the "Windrush generation,"; her father was a bus driver and her mother worked in a pyjama factory. Malorie wanted to be an English tutor at school, but instead she became a systems programmer. She earned a B.C. degree at Thames Polytechnic and attended the National Film and Television School.

Personal life

Malorie Blackman lives with her husband and daughter in Kent, England. In her free time, she likes to play piano, compose, play computer games, and write poetry. Verna Wilkins' biography of children includes her child.

In March 2014, Blackman joined other influential writers in promoting the Let Books Be Books campaign, which aims to avoid children's books from being labeled "for girls" or "for boys" in the case.

Malorie Blackman was one of 200 public figures to sign a letter opposing Scottish independence in August 2014, just days before the referendum in September.

Blackman is a contributor to the anthology New Daughters of Africa (edited by Margaret Busby) with a letter sent to her daughter by a woman.

www.popsugar.co.uk, October 18, 2022
Pop royalty rarely meets real royalty on a daily basis, but it wasn't always that way at the 2022 Booker Prize for Fiction awards. Queen Consort Camilla was seen rubbing shoulders with no other than Dua Lipa on October 17 — and followers were sold. Lipa was caught on a black velvet Burberry dress with a plunging sweetheart neckline and mesh opera gloves, implying that she was "completely honored" to attend the function. Lipa is believed to have said "no singing tonight" while she did bust out "Happy Birthday" to shortlisted author Alan Garner. One fan tweeted, "I LOVE DUA LIPA!!!!!And here she is chatting it up with Camilla, LOVE THIS!!!!"while another commented that the meeting was "Too fun!!! "Italian" said the author.

Joanne Harris, a chocolatist, is embroiled in a war of words with the Harry Potter creator

If it wasn't for recent events, J.K. Rowling (pictured) and Joanne Harris might have remarked on the surprising amount of common ground they have shared in the aftermath of last week's sickening knife assault on fellow author Sir Salman Rushdie.

Drew Masali Baduza to "Noughts + Crosses" says the black Empowerment

www.popsugar.co.uk, May 6, 2022
During the first UK lockdown in 2020, Malorie Blackman's novel "Noughts & Crosses" was released on television. The series's timing was specifically designed to accommodate current debates about race and discrimination, which were also present in different countries. "Noughts + Crosses," the first series of "Noughts + Crosses" has returned to BBC One and iPlayer for a second series starring Sephy Hadley, portrayed by rising actor Masali Baduza. Baduza reveals that she was drawn to this project because it is a tale in which Black people are not oppressed. "I was aware of the Black Lives Matter movement while attending college in the United States," she says. "I've been involved with it for a long time, which is why I've been compelled to 'Noughts + Crosses'." It does for me imply black liberation in a variety of ways."
