Early life
Delaney was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on March 11, 1989. Patricia, his mother, was a nurse and day care provider. Vincent, Jr., was a top high school basketball player in Baltimore and later became a starter at Voorhees College in Denmark, South Carolina. Vincent, Jr., a social worker, graduated from college. Vincent, Malcolm's older brother, will play NCAA Division II college football for Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts. Delaney led his Pop Warner youth football team to the national championship in his youth. He also won a home run derby in Little League Baseball. Delaney dribbled and shot balls on the sidelines at an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team workout at age seven.
High school career
Delaney began attending McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland, where he played football and basketball. He joined the Eagles' basketball team and saw them have a lot of success in their first season. McDonogh was the top-ranked team in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association, with most notable success over Mount Saint Joseph High School. (MIAA) Delaney has also coached the Eagles to victories over ranked Cardinal Gibbons School and Towson Catholic High School.
Delaney moved to Towson Catholic, where he continued to play MIAA basketball under head coach Josh Pratt before his sophomore year. On the Owls' roster, he joined Donté Greene and Ron Nicholson.
As a senior, he had 20 points, four rebounds, and four steals. He was also a member of the Spalding Hoopball Classic and was co-MVP of the Spalding Hoopball Classic. Was a member of the Baltimore Catholic League and an All-American, Charm City Classic MVP, Capitol Classic All-Tournament team, and Baltimore Catholic League Player of the Year. College career
Delaney placed second on the team in assists (107, 3.1 apg), fourth on the team in scoring (9.6 ppg) and minutes played (27.3%) and fifth on the team in rebounding (2.9 rpg). He began playing in all 35 games and appeared in all 24 games of the season. In all three Virginia Tech post-season games, he scored in double figures. With four at UNC, he scored a career-high 20 points and tied for his highest steals in career history. In the home victory, he made the game-tying three-pointer with 52 seconds remaining against Maryland.
Delaney was named third-team All-ACC in his second season. In 12 games and more than 15 points in 25 tournaments, he had more than 20 points and more than 20 points. He boosted his scoring average and finished second on the team in scoring, average 18.2 ppg. Professional career
Delaney signed with French firm Élan Chalon in a £130,000 deal in 2011, after going undrafted. The team competes in France's top professional league, LNB Pro A. Delaney won by 77–73 over BCM Gravelines in his first professional game. Delaney earned his first double-double in a 99-109 overtime loss to the Nanterre on April 6, 2012, scoring 30 points and 10 assists.
Malcolm Delaney agreed to a contract with BC Budivelnyk in Kiev, Ukraine, in 2012. The club competes in the Ukrainian Basketball SuperLeague. In 2013, he was voted to the All-EuroCup First Team.

Delaney joined PBC Lokomotiv Kuban on July 2, 2014. He later said that the club was "aggressive" in attempting to sign him, and that he had "never heard a bad word" about them.
In the summer of 2015, he rejoined Lokomotiv for the 2015-2016 season. Lokomotiv finished third in third place in the 2016 EuroLeague Final Four. He led his team to the European Championship Four. Over 31 EuroLeague games, Delaney averaged 16.3 points, 5.5 assists, and 3.4 rebounds.
Delaney agreed to a two-year, $5 million contract with the Atlanta Hawks on July 15, 2016. In a 114–99 victory over the Washington Wizards, he made his NBA debut in the Hawks' season opener on October 27, 2016, putting four points and five assists in 20 minutes off the bench. In his first career appearance as a back-in for Dennis Schröder, Delaney had five points and four assists but made just 2 of ten shots from the field on February 24, 2017.
Delaney signed with the Guangdong Southern Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association on July 28, 2018. In an 87-84 victory over the Beijing Ducks, he scored 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists in his first game with the Southern Tigers.
