Maiwenn Life

Mawenn Le Besco (French: [majwn lsko]; born 17 April 1976; Mawenn is a French actress and filmmaker who appeared mononymously as Mawenn.

Early life

Mawenn Le Besco was born in Les Lilas, Seine-Saint-Denis, on April 17, 1976, the granddaughter of artist Catherine Belkhodja. She is of mixed Breton, Vietnamese, French, and Algerian descent. Her Algerian ancestry derives from her maternal grandfather. Mama Le Pois Chiche (The Chickpea) and I'm an Actress on Mawenn's stage mother coerced her to act at a young age, an event that later recalled by Mawenn in her one-woman revue Le Pois Chiche (The Chickpea).

Personal life

Mawenn met film director Luc Besson when she was 12 and he was 29, and they started dating when she was 15. Shanna was born in January 1993 at the age of 16. Léon: The Professional, a 1994 film by Mawenn, is based on her friendship with Besson, according to the DVD extras. She was 20 at the start of filming (early 1996) for The Fifth Element, during which Besson left her for Milla Jovovich, the film's actress.

Diego, Mawenn's second ex-husband who works as a real estate developer, was born in 2004.

Maiwenn Career

Career

Mawenn appeared in many films as a child, then teenager, actor, and eventually as "Elle as a child" (the child version of Isabelle Adjani's lead role in 1983 hit film L'été meurtrier (One Deadly Summer).

Mawenn's career was marred by several years after her marriage to director Luc Besson and the birth of their daughter in 1993. She appeared in only a supporting role in Besson's Léon (1994), in which she was credited as Ouin-Ouin. She also supervised the film's making-of. Perhaps Mawenn's most internationally known film appearance was her role as the alien Diva Plagataguna in Besson's The Fifth Element (1997).

Mawenn returned to France after her breakup with Besson. She appeared as a stand-up comedian in an autobiographical one-woman exhibition in Paris and reentered the film industry after many comedians were impressed with her comedic routine in Paris. She appeared in several notable films, including the horror film Haute Tension (English title: High Tension), in which she appeared opposite Cécile de France. She had decided she wanted to try directing by the time the movie came out in 2003.

Pardonnez-moi, she's wife's first feature film, was released in 2006. "You need to immediately stop what you're doing," Besson told her after she learned she planned to use her own money to produce the film. You're nuts. Nobody invests money in a movie." He apologised after seeing the film, but she was correct on this one. Le bal des actrices (2009, All About Actresses), her second film, in which she appears as herself making a documentary, was her second film. She gained international recognition for her third film, Polisse (2011), which won the Jury Prize at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Both three films feature Mawenn with a camera, born of a childhood obsession and her fascination in the mise en abyme, the story within a story. Mon roi's 2015 film was chosen to compete for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The COVID-19 pandemic affected her film, DNA in 2020. Mawenn is making a film La Favorite starring Johnny Depp in 2022.
