Magdalena Maria Tagliaferro (19January 1893 to September 1986) was a Brazilian-born pianist of French descent. Magdalena Tagliaferro was born in Petrópolis, Brazil.
Her father, who had studied piano with Raoul Pugno in Paris, served as a voice and piano professor in So Paulo Conservatory.
Pablo Casals, a cellist, was introduced to Tagliaferro when she was 11 years old and encouraged her to study at the Conservatoire de Paris.

Her father arranged for her to play for Pugno, who was captivated and referred her to Antonin Marmontel at the Conservatoire by her mother.
She joined the Conservatoire in 1906 in Marmontel's class and was given the Premier Prix (the highest examination award for achievement) in 1907.
