Lynne McGranger (born 29 January 1953) is an Australian actress best known for her role as Irene Roberts on soap opera Home and Away.

She is the second longest serving cast member after original Ray Meagher.

She joined the series in 1993, taking over from actress Jacquy Phillips who first portrayed Irene in 1991 and 1992.

McGranger has been the longest serving female cast member of a television soap opera in Australia as of 2019, after appearing in the role for more than 26 years.

Personal life

In 1953, McGranger was born in Paddington, Sydney. Clancy (b): She has one daughter, Clancy (b). Paul McWaters, 1991, married her husband of more than 30 years. She is a huge fan of cricket and is also interested in history. McGranger is also a backer of the Sydney Swans. Godfrey Allum, McGranger's maternal grandfather, was organist at St Paul's Cathedral Melbourne and authored a number of Organ Preludes (The Australian Organist May 1988).

Career

McGranger was born to Bruce and Audrey. She began teaching at the Riverina College of Advanced Education in Wagga, New South Wales, in 1975, where she first began acting. She began her career in stage, including Rose in Bye Birdie and Anita in West Side Story. She began working in television and gained a small part in the soap opera The Flying Doctors after further experience with the Q Theatre in Penrith, west of Sydney.

When she joined the cast of Home and Away as Irene Roberts, she played her best-known character on January 12, 1993. McGranger was made a permanent cast member in 1990, after being cast in a first cast role. McGranger defeated former co-star Kate Ritchie as the longest serving actress in Australian television in 2014.

McGranger appeared in Dancing with the Stars for the fourteenth season. During the Christmas season, she appears in British pantomimes, including Brighton, Torquay, York, and Ashton-under-Lyne and Southport.
