Lynn Cohen (born August 10, 1933) is an American actress.

She is best known for her role in the HBO series Sex and the City and its 2008 sequel, as well as Mags in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Early years

Lynn Harriette Kay, the daughter of Louis Kay and Bertha Cornsweet Kay, was born in Kansas City, Missouri, to a Jewish family. She studied at the University of Wisconsin and Northwestern University for a year, then moved to St. Louis, where she first performed in regional theater.

Personal life

In 1954, Cohen married Gilbert Frazen, but the two divorced in 1960. She married Ronald Theodore Cohen in 1964, and they were married until her death in 2020. She had one adult child and two grandchildren.

Career

Cohen began her acting in Off-Broadway productions in the 1970s, receiving Drama League Award and Lucille Lortel Awards nominations. Hamlet co-starring Kevin Kline and Macbeth starring Liev Schniber are among the notable credits. Vanessa Redgrave (1989) and Ivanov (1994), on Broadway, Cohen appeared in Orpheus Descending starring Vanessa Redgrave (1989) and Ivanov, reuniting her with Kevin Kline (1994).

Cohen portrayed strong, assuaging women on a regular basis. Her first film appearance came in the 1993 comedy Manhattan Murder Mystery. She appeared in a total of 12 episodes from 1993 to 2006. She appeared on NYPD Blue, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Blue Bloods, and was a regular contributor to Damages.

Cohen appeared in HBO's comedy series Sex and the City from 2000 to 2004 as Magda. She reprised her role in the 2008 film of the same name, as well as its 2010 sequel. Cohen appeared on Golda Meir, Vanya on 42nd Street, Synecdoche, New York, Eagle Eye, and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
