He migrated to Crewe Alexandra in 2005, where he remained until a January 2007 transfer to Port Vale.

Yeovil's tenure was short, and he soon moved to Notts County, where he helped with promotion in his first season. In January 2011, he made his move to Major League Soccer with the New York Red Bulls.

He was released by the Red Bulls after his work visa renewal was refused and moved to Lillestrm, Norway.

Luke Rodgers Career

Club career

Rodgers came from Shrewsbury Town at the age of 17. He first established himself as a goal-scoring player in 27 games (half of which were as a replacement). In a 7–1 victory over Spotland on February 24, three of his goals came against Rochdale. Rodgers' potential emerged in 41 games this season, this time never being used as a replacement.

In 2002–03, he scored 20 goals in 47 games. Rodgers also played in the FA Cup's epic victory over Premier League Everton, but despite this Shrewsbury was relegated out of the English Football League after finishing last place in the Third Division. Rodgers was 'not for sale' at the end of the season, according to manager Jimmy Quinn, who had a £200,000 bid for Rodgers rejected by manager Jimmy Quinn. A £200,000 bid of their own was turned down by Hull City, as Quinn ordered Rodgers to remain in Shropshire. Southampton had already unconfirmed rumors that the player had earned as much as £600,000 per season.

Despite being limited to 26 league starts in 2003-2004, he still scored fifteen goals in his 41 games. In the play-off semi-final aggregate victory that lifted Shrewsbury over Aldershot Town at the Britannia Stadium, he scored both goals past Barnet. The final itself was a penalty shoot-out, and although Rodgers missed his chance, Town won the match as all three Aldershot penalty-takers missed theirs. He only scored eight goals in forty games during his time with the "Shrews" in 2004-05. However, he had long been a fan favorite at Gay Meadow, scoring 67 goals in 204 appearances for the Shropshire side in all competitions, as well as guiding four club hat-tricks.

Rodgers turned down Shrewsbury's one-year contract, and he was first linked to Hibernian, a SPL high-flyers. In July 2005, he joined Crewe Alexandra on a two-year deal for a tribunal-decided fee. Shrewsbury won £100,000 from the tribunal as a result of his appearances; however, Shrewsbury only received the first of these because of his brief time in Crewe. Crewe continued to fall apart in 2005–06, and although Rodgers was limited to six goals in his 26 games, he was forced to sit off the bench in half of those games.

Despite being adored by fans, he was never a fan of Dario Gradi and was third choice behind free-scoring Luke Varney and Nicky Maynard at the 2006–07 season. Rodgers requested a transfer to a club that would provide him with regular football, but after only 39 appearances and 9 goals, he transferred to Port Vale, a £30,000 fee. This came after he signed for Vale ahead of Paul Sturrock's arrival in Crewe, as well as Chester City, and an unidentified League Two club who paid £40,000 for the striker.

He was hurt after just three appearances for the "Valiants" and only played a total of eight games before the season, although he did score three goals. In a 3–0 victory over Vale Park, his first goal for the club came against Crewe. Rodgers was the club's top scorer in 41 games during the 2007–08 season, but Vale's loss to Southern Football League minnows Chasetown in the Second Round of the FA Cup was shocking.

Although Rodgers were expected to Yeovil Town in November 2008, the transfer process was stalled, as the two clubs had trouble finding a transfer fee. However, a loan contract was signed which will bring Rodgers to Yeovil until the January transfer window, when the club will have the option of buying him for £30,000 with a 10% sell-on clause, according to Yeovil boss Russell Slade, who also stated "the last throw of the dice"). Despite all of this, he was released from his employment by mutual consent in January after a dispute with manager Dean Glover. Glover said that the decision was motivated by a desire to free up the wage bill.

Rodgers turned down a Northampton Town visit, instead joining Yeovil Town until the end of the season. He left the club at the end of his deal after scoring rewards in 22 games for the League One club.

Rodgers had intended to stay in League One after leaving Yeovil, but instead signed for Notts County in July 2009 on a two-year contract. Rodgers got off to a slow start to the season by making eight appearances without scoring, but they did break out of the barren spell with a hat-trick over Lincoln City on September 29th.(7) He appeared in 42 league games for Notts County, scoring 13 league goals in assisting the club in winning promotion out of League Two.

Rodgers was supposed to leave Notts County to join former Magpies' boss Hans Backe at New York Red Bulls at the end of the season, according to him. However, this move was put into question after his initial application for a US work visa was rejected. Nevertheless, Backe was positive that Rodgers would return to the club in January 2011 as a result of Rodgers' mutual termination of his deal at Meadow Lane, and the move went smoothly as expected.

Rodgers signed with the New York Red Bulls in January 2011, after a lengthy process. In a goalless draw with the Columbus Crew, he made his MLS debut two months later. In a 3–0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes this month, Rodgers scored his first two goals and assisted strike partner Thierry Henry. He was dubbed the week's MLS 'player of the Week' for his contribution.' "This is the happiest I've been in football," Rodgers told reporters. As head coach Hans Backe tended to select Rodgers ahead of USA international Juan Agudelo as Henry's strike partner, he scored nine goals in 23 league games. Despite Rodgers' absence from two months of campaign with plantar fasciitis, he was able to achieve this. He became a fan's favorite at the Red Bull Arena thanks to his "feisty disposition."

On March 30, 2012, the New York Red Bulls had to call off Rodgers' contract as he was unable to obtain a visa to play in the United States, and that same day, he signed a deal with Norwegian Tippeligaen club Lillestrm SK that will run until the end of the 2012 season. In a 2–2 draw with Rosenborg at the rsen Stadion, he scored four minutes into his debut two days later. Rodgers and Lillestrrm's decision to leave during Tippeligaen's summer break was despite struggling to secure his place in the first team.

Portsmouth signed Rodgers and nine other players to a one-month deal on August 16, 2012. He scored for the club in a 2–2 draw with Colchester United, and he also set up a goal for Jordan Obita. In a 2–2 draw with AFC Bournemouth in the League Trophy, he scored his first goal before winning the winning penalty in the resulting shoot-out. In a 3–0 victory over Crawley Town five days later, Rodgers scored a 25-yard free kick. Rodgers sustained an injury on his left thigh at the end of September, effectively ending his involvement for three weeks.

On November 9, he returned to Shrewsbury Town, where he began his career, on loan, with the transfer set to become permanent in the January transfer window. "People do say, 'Don't ever go back,'" Rodgers said on returning to the New Meadow, but what is the worst that might happen?" Rodgers said he wished to stay until the 2012–2013 season, after the change was made permanent in January. He left the club in March 2013 after scoring just twice in 15 appearances and losing out on a spot in the starting lineup in six weeks.

In July 2013, he joined Hammarby IF, a Swedish Superettan team. He was one of Gregg Berhalter's last signings before the American was fired.

In February 2014, Rodgers joined Forest Green Rovers, a Conference National team. In a 3–2 victory over Cambridge United, he made his debut at The New Lawn on March 8 as a late substitute for Lee Hughes. In an FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round tie 4–1 victory over Gloucester City on October 25, 2014, he scored his first competitive goal for Rovers. It was announced on December 1, 2014, that he had agreed to part ways with Forest Green by mutual consent.

In the 2015–16 season, he played for Sutton Coldfield Town of the Northern Premier League Premier Division. In December 2016, Solihull Moors, a National League side, signed him. In June 2017, he joined Hednesford Town in Northern Premiership Premier Division play. For the "Pitmen" he scored one goal in six games, winning one man of the match award.

Rodgers made his Midland League Premier Division debut in September 2017, defeating Coventry Sphinx 3–1.

International career

Rodgers won one cap for England under Paul Fairclough's semi-professional work on November 4, 2003, although he was with Shrewsbury Town in the Conference National. Rodgers assisted Sam Ricketts before scoring a goal himself with a 25-yard free kick two minutes before the final whistle ended, ending in a 2–2 draw with Belgium under 20s.
