Doillon began modelling at the age of 16, becoming the ambassador of Givenchy. Vanessa Bruno, Eres, Mango, H&M, Miu Miu, Miu Miu, JBrand, Barney's, Gap, Maje, and Chloé have all been Vanessa Bruno's spokespersons. In the Pirelli Calendar, she was included alongside Sophia Loren and Penélope Cruz. For six collections, she has collaborated with Lee Cooper and La Redoute as a creative consultant and designer.
Doillon, together with director Michel Didym, created a show based on letters from French writers and musicians (Louis-Ferdinand Celine, Marcel Proust, and Édith Piaf), as well as monologues. She toured French-speaking theatres all over Europe for over two years.
Doillon first appeared in the National Theatre of Orléans in 2010 after working with director Arthur Nauzyciel on Samuel Beckett's one-sentence monologue "L'Image." They appeared throughout France and New York for the Crossing the Line Festival, as dancer Damien Jalet and experimental musician Meelice. Doillon performed "Image" directed by Nauzyciel for a week in 2017.
Doillon has appeared on several occasions (Paroles d'Exil et Musique Interdite with the French National Orchestra, Calamity Jane with singer/ guitarist John Mitchell, and as a reader for many French-literature festivals).
Doillon has been drawing since she was ten years old, and she has often included her drawings in her other works (the vinyl version of her album was released in 2016, and the majority of her tour stuff is drawn by her). Since the age of 12, she has been keeping a drawn and written diary. She works with an extra fine Sailor Pen on Sennelier paper or Moleskine diaries.
Doillon published a book in September 2017 that included 80 ink and pencil drawings as well as diary drawings with Astier de Villatte. At La maison Molière in Paris, the publication was followed by an exhibit of the original drawings. She has also worked with Astier de Villatte and Ivan Pericoli on a project of 18 different types of hand-backed ceramic mugs and 15 unique pieces, which were also on display and sold in Tokyo at the launch of the joint venture in November 2017 with creative duo Benoit Astier de Villatte and Ivan Pericoli.
"I discovered Jacques' love for experimental and a strange degree of radicalness in music when my parents split." When playing Chet Baker, Billie Holiday, Siouxsie, Patti Smith, and Nick Drake, he'll say, "sit down, shut down, and listen to the music." Among other things, she often quotes Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Lhasa, Lead Belly, Fiona Apple, Cat Power, Nina Simone, Tim Buckley, and Bobbie Gentry as sources.
Doillon performed with many musicians in New York and Paris during the 2000s before starting a solo career in 2010. Marianne Faithfull, Nina Simone, Anohni, and Joanna Newsom have all been described as "equal parts." Her genre has been described as haunted folk. She writes about Canadian Guild guitars (D55) or the piano, and appears on an Eko electric guitar.
Doillon signed her first recording contract with Barclay in 2012 (Universal Music France). Étienne Daho and mixed by Philippe Zdar of the band Cassius produced her first EP I.C.U. in June and was released in June.
