Early life

Nicholson was born in Los Angeles to actors Jack Nicholson and Rebecca Broussard. She was named after her father's aunt. Raymond has a younger brother, as well as two older half-siblings; Jennifer Nicholson, a half-brother, and Caleb Goddard, a half-brother. When her parents separated, she was four years old. She graduated from Brentwood High School in Brentwood, California, in 2008.

Personal life

At the 2007 Golden Globe Awards ceremony, Nicholson was named Miss Golden Globe.

She graduated from Brown University with a degree in Literary Arts in May 2012, with the intention of being a screenwriter. "I love to act, and I also want to write and direct and create my own projects," Nicholson said in a 2011 interview. I find that making your own luck – and designing programs to give others equally good opportunities as well as yourself – is very important in the film business, particularly as a woman. Nicholson was accepted into the AFI Directing Workshop for Women, a mentorship and education program geared toward female filmmaking.

In her father's film Something's Gotta Give, Nicholson's first on-screen appearance was as an extra. Katie appeared in the animated film Fly Me to the Moon in 2008.

Nicholson played Bethany Hamilton's best friend Alana Blanchard, who was there to assist her after a shark attack took her left arm. Nicholson had to take a crash course in wave riding as Blanchard was a competitive survivor.

In Anonymous (2016), Nicholson played an expert hacker.

The Instant Message, a 15-minute coming-of-age drama starring Nicholson, produced and directed. This Magic Moment was directed and written by her later in life. Life Boat, Nicholson's third short film, premiered at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival, and she was born in 2017.
