Lorraine Gary (born August 16, 1937) is a retired American actress best known for her role as Ellen Brody in Jaws, Jaws 2, and Jaws: The Revenge.

Early life
Lorraine Gottfried, queens, was born Lorraine Gottfried to Belle and George Gottfried, an entertainment industry manager.
She and her family migrated to Los Angeles, California, where she was born at an early age. In a competition at the prestigious Pasadena Playhouse, she received a best actress award at the age of 16. She had been invited a scholarship to attend the Pasadena Playhouse but had to attend Columbia University instead as a political science major.
Personal life
Gary Sheinberg married entertainment industry executive Sidney Sheinberg on August 19, 1956, the youngest of two children named Jonathan J. and William David.
She resigned from acting after her appearance in 1941 (1979), only briefly returning to reprise Ellen Brody's role in Jaws: The Revenge (1987). Bill Sheinberg and Jonathan Sheinberg, both of her sons, are film producers.
Career
Gary, a life member of Actors Studio, began her acting career in the late 1960s and appeared on many popular television shows. Night Gallery, Dragnet 1968, McCloud, The Marcus-Nelson Murders (the pilot for Kojak), and The F.B.I. She began acting as Miss Kirk, a woman with a drinking disorder who may have been complicit in a murder.
Gary founded New Hope Productions, a company that produced television shows, in addition to her acting.
