Lorna Patterson Life

Lorna Patterson (born October 1, 1956) is an American film, stage and television actress, as well as a nascent Jewish cantor.

Randy, the singing stewardess in Airplane!, and as the lead in the television series Private Benjamin were two of her best-known roles as an actress.

Personal life

Patterson was married to actor Robert Ginty. Patterson appeared in the 1980 film Goodtime Girls, which also starred Annie Potts and Georgia Engel, and was portrayed by Ginty's first wife, Francine Tacker. She is currently married to actor/director Michael Lembeck, and the pair have two children.

Patterson converted to Judaism just a few years after marrying Lembeck (his faith). The Academy of Jewish Religion in Los Angeles gave her her cantorial ordination in 2009.

Career

She is a founding member of the Musical Theatre Guild and has appeared in many stage musicals.

In the 1980 comedy Airplane, she played Randy, the blonde stewardess. In the 1981 television film Sidney Shorr: A Girl's Best Friend, she co-starred with Tony Randall. By the time this was converted to television show Love, Sidney, she had won the lead role in the 1981–1983 film Private Benjamin, so her Sidney Shorr role was played in Love, Sidney by Swoosie Kurtz. She had appeared on two short-lived series, Working Stiffs and Goodtime Girls, before she became a regular on two short-lived series. Liz Drever appeared in The Flying Doctors, episodes 2, 3 and 4, in Australia.

Patterson has also contributed to some animated films, including the TV series Timeless Tales from Hallmark, Joseph and his Brothers from The Greatest Adventure: Stories from the Bible, the English dub of the Japanese anime film Ultraman: The Adventure Begins, and Christmas special Nick & Noel.
