Personal life
Alan was born in Potomac, Maryland, on July 18, 1966. Her mother is a Southern Baptist and her father is Jewish, and she had a mixed faith family. Both of her parents were actors and praised her choice to be an actress. Alan is a graduate of Los Angeles.
She began acting at age five and made her television debut in a Shakey's Pizza commercial. Annie Get Your Gun, which was her first appearance in a local community theater performance of Annie Get Your Gun. She enrolled in Emerson College and graduated with honors from Tisch School of the Arts as a longtime member of New York's Gotham City Improv (Groundlings East).
Alan is involved with animal rescue and welfare causes. She has spoken out against animal cruelty and has lobbied for World Protection for Dogs and Cats in the Meat Trade. Pickle Pants Rescue, an animal rescue group based in Los Angeles, is also on the board.
Career
Alan has been performing for over three decades. She learned at her first voice acting job that getting to the authentic essence of the character she is voicing is to improvise and trust her own choices.
