Lolita Davidovich (born July 15, 1961) is a Canadian actress best known for her role as Blaze Starr in the 1989 film Blaze, for which she received a Chicago Film Critics Association Award nomination.

She appeared in films including Leap of Faith (1992), Raising Cain (1994), Intersection (1994), Gods and Monsters (1998), Play It to the Bone (1999).

Early life

Davidovich was born Lolita Davidovia in London, Ontario, the daughter of emigrants from the former Yugoslavia. Her father was from Belgrade (Sergo's capital), and her mother was from Slovenia. During her youth, she spoke only Serbian.

She studied at the Herbert Berghof Studio in New York.

Personal life

Davidovich is married to screenwriter and producer Ron Shelton, who is best known for Bull Durham (1988) and White Men Can't Jump (1992). Shelton has directed films in which Davidovich has appeared, including Blaze. They have two children and live in Los Angeles and Ojai, California.

Career

Davidovich began her career as a small actress on television and film. For the title role of the burlesque actress Blaze Starr, she received notice co-starring in comedy-drama film Blaze with Paul Newman.

She appeared in the 1991 film The Object of Beauty, alongside John Malkovich and Andie MacDowell, before receiving critical recognition for her leading role as an inmate in HBO's Prison Stories: Women on the Inside. Davidovich went on to lead roles in films including the 1992 thriller Raising Cain directed by Brian De Palma and Leap of Faith, co-starring Steve Martin and Liam Neeson.

In the 1994 drama Intersection, she portrayed Richard Gere's love interest. Shelton had appeared in Cobb, Play It to the Bone, Starvation, Hollywood Homicide, and the Oliver Stone film JFK, as director Ron Shelton. Davidovich has also been recognized as Best Actress for Younger and Younger, and he appeared in films Boiling Point, For Better or Worse, Now and Then, Jungle 2 Jungle, Gods and Monsters, Alaska, 1999.

Davidovich performed on film and television in the 2000s. She appeared in numerous episodes of The L Word, the showtime lesbian-themed drama series, starring Francesca Wolff, and she appeared on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Criminal Minds, Rizzoli & Isles, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and NCIS. In the adventure game Chronomaster, Davidovich performed Jester, as well as the voices of actor Ron Perlman and Brent Spiner. Angel Gemini appeared in the adventure game Of Light and Shadow: The Prophecy, which also included actor James Woods' voice.

Davidovich made her film debut in 2015 in the role of lead character's mother in Nicholas Sparks' romantic drama The Longest Ride is based on Nicholas Sparks' book. Taylor Kitsch's character's mother was cast in the second season of HBO crime drama True Detective as Taylor Kitsch's mother, and ABC prime time soap opera Blood & Oil as Don Johnson's ex-wife.
